I think she was in a television film called Hand in Hand. I am sure it was a British film, but made for television. it must have been made in the mid 60s. I'm deliberately not looking it up. I want to see how much I can recall.

All of this is based on a memory from forty years ago. I was about six or seven - it had a great impact on me. It is about a Catholic boy and a Jewish firl who become friends.

For me, it was one of those British films that made me realize how different they were from the homegrown product (home being the US) - films like Sammy Goes South and Wee Geordie. I've been hooked ever since.

"Home was never like this"

"Mine was"

I'm pretty sure Hand in Hand was a cinema film. Interestingly one of Sybil Thorndike's 60's tv plays THE FATHER now "junked" was also filmed seperately in NTSC and colour for US tv, i'd love to know if that's survived.

Default Sybil Thorndike

It's funny how one's memory plays tricks. For many years I laboured under the illusion that Sybil Thorndike and Athene Seyler had appeared in a film "Arsenic and Old Lace". I was only partly right - it was, in fact, a radio adaptation. Old age!!!

I have Dame Sybil in A PASSAGE TO INDIA with Zia Mohyeddin as Dr Aziz. If you can lay hands on WATERS OF THE MOON we could do a trade. Send me a PM with an e-mail address where I can reach you. Best, 'aphra'
