It isnt that good despite an interesting cast as from what I remember live actors are 'blue screened' onto illustrations - as this was the '70s there is a thick fuzzy blue line around all the actors. Worth getting on thecheap but not, in my opinion, worth paying for. The more interesting '70s version was the animated version which Alastair Sim did the voice for.

I really like the 90's version with Patrick Stewart, possibly my favourite version.

In my humble opinion, nothing can ever come close to "Scrooge" the 1970 musical starring Albert Finney.

My favourite versions in order of preference...

1) 'The Muppet Christmas Carol' with Michael Caine as Scrooge (sorry purists, I'm as surprised as you are).
2) 'Scrooge' (1951) with Alistair Sim born to play Scrooge.
3) 'The Christmas Carol' (1984) with George C. Scott as Scrooge.

I do not think I've ever seen the 1977 BBC production.

Excellent choice Aaryk -

Could I also put to the house, as number 4, the wonderful Hollywood version with Reginald Owen (English IIRC). This is another one of our Xmas faves, but the pecking order is as you've described.

Sad to say that last time we pilgrimaged to Shrewsbury, the churchyard where they left Scrooge's tomb, from the George C. Scott filming, was closed due to recent incidents of vandalism.

Not just to be awkward, the Henry Edwards-directed 1935 version starring Seymour Hicks and Donald Calthrop works beautifully for a film of such limited budget, as it concentrates on performances rather than effects........Hicks played the role for 40 years on stage, including before Queen Victoria, and it is possible but unconfirmed that it's Hicks playing Scrooge in the 1901 version ....and as such it's an important document in the history of acting, as well as being an intensely moving little film.

Bit of a Bay Window, what??
