Default Passions and repressions.

I am taking film studies AS at the moment and one of our exams is on passions and repressions. For our main film we are looking at "Brief Encounter", we have also studied "Victim" and "A Beautiful Thing". Can anyone suggest any other relevant films I could watch for my passions and repressions paper?
thanks,
kintii

Maybe The Remains of the Day, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Letter to Brezhnev, This Sporting Life or the Catholic overtones in Brighton Rock.

Thankyou, that's really helpful. I shall rent them this weekend. Any other suggestions?

Mike Leigh's Naked & Secrets and Lies. Neil Jordan's Mona Lisa and The Crying Game.

Try "Betrayal" the film version of the Harold Pinter play with Jeremy Irons Ben Kingsley and Patricia Hodge. Its about a love affair which the Irons character has with his best friend's (kingsley) wife (Hodge). Its told backwards so that the final scene, where the affair is about to brgin and you see Irons' hand grasp Hodges' has tremendous impact.

Black Narcissus (1947)
The Red Shoes (1948)

Also, just to show I don't only suggest Powell & Pressburger films:
The Servant (1963)

Black Narcissus is such a good suggestion for a film that comes under this topic.

I agree with all the suggestions so far. But, going back to Michael Powell, how about Peeping Tom ?

.....mine has gin in it.....

Always a good suggestion - but not much repression in there :)
