Hiya. For my Media Studies Coursework I am studying the representation of women in three well-known British Romantic Comedies: Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones' Diary and Notting Hill. For my research it is important that I gather peoples' opinions of how accurate you think the representation of the leading female characters is in relation to real life situations. The Andie MacDowell (Four Weddings), Renee Zellweger (Bridget Jones) and Julia Roberts (Notting Hill) characters are all very different and I would be curious to find out which (if any or all) people think is the most fair and accurate representation in the roles they play. If you feel that they do or do not at all follow the representation that they should, please state why. Any other opinions are welcome. Thank you in advance, Sadie :) Xx
**The representation covers all sorts including appearance, expressions, actions, sex symbolism, relationships* |

Hard to comment on any as all three are US imports (and I've no passion for them) designed to boost the overseas sales of another artificial Working Title romcom - and Robert's and McDowell are pretty much forgettable in their roles with the best moments being when both are offscreen. Zellweger succeeds because she makes the character down-to-earth, approachable and brimming in human flaws; be it her diet or relationships.
