Hi,

For my A2 Media Studies coursework I have to research into a certain hypothesis based around Women and Film.
The hypothesis I have chosen is 'Does the way that young women are represented in teen films have an effect on a teenage audience?'

I came to this forum to ask members if they could please offer me a response on my hypothesis.

Any help on your views on this subject would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Alarnnah

Hi Alarnnah,
Welcome to the forum.
My initial thought would be that you would need to define what you wish to represent as a 'teenage audience'.
The viewing effects would probably be different to the male and the female. Possibly social class & peer grouping may come into it.
Are the 'teenage audience' watching in a cinema or on a tv? Are they watching in a group or singly?

As for the films, are they watching teen romance, teen horror, teen fantasy, teen drivel? The audience response would not be generic across the various genre's.

Thanx for replying.
Sorry if I did not make it clear enough, I didn't feel the need to be clear as i purely wanted your opinion on the matter.
I will clarify though.
I am mainly concerned about the viewing effects on a female audience and whether anyone thinks that by watching certain films and viewing things in the media they are subjected to act or behave in a certain way.
My case study films are Mean Girls, Thirteen and Cruel intentions purely for the fact that, especially with Cruel intentions, that is the type of film teens are able to see and the content is perhaps not very suitable.
It does not matter for the information I need if it as at the cinema or tv because all films that at the cinema eventually get to DVD and TV anyway.
As for viewing it group or singly that is not initially important but perhaps what they then decide to do to fit in with a group or person.

I hope that helps.
