It sounds like you're asking us to write you film studies essay for you.
Students often ask, but rarely get anyone to fall for it.
Why don't you say what you think or pose some more specific questions and see if anyone wants to comment on your thoughts?

Okay, since you are serious, here's a serious reply for you. The narcissistic but weak Joe Lampton or Jimmy Porter's railing against the British class system seem a far cry from Jean-Pierre Melville's existentialist anti-hero Jef Costello in 'Le Samourai." Who then is the British descendant of the French New Wave anti-hero and its dreamscape treatment?

This is a wee bit like the begining of a very serious challenge, dont think I'm in your league at the moment, like I said it was just an intro question, but you intrigue me Barbara and I will follow up your line and give you a fair reply, WTS.

]Be afraid, be very afraid. No-one tangles with the FFG [bit of an in-joke but you'll soon realise, as has been pointed out to you already, it is a bit of a madhouse].

Not too sure what your getting at however if you are trying to say the anti hero of Mark Renton in Trainspotting is a direct development from Arthur Seaton then I must disagree. It could be said that the two characters are connected through time in manyways: Working class, disaffected and both with brain dead parents, although both in their own way seek to escape from the monotomy of life through a hedonistic approach, Seaton is resigned to domestic entrapment eventually whilst Renton I think isent. As the tag for the film said

"Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a starter home. Choose dental insurance, leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose your future. But why would anyone want to do a thing like that?"

Well I'm on Theakstons Old Perculier, if your buying.

Charles
