Recent British Film Directors

Hi everyone,



I'm doing my A2 critical research on women directors and I want to focus on recent British women directors. That is they've directed films in the past few years. (I'm quite interested in the topic as it is my dream to direct films one day.)



Can anyone make any suggestions? So far I've got Andrea Arnold, Antonia Bird, Gurinder Chadha, Sally Potter and Lynne Ramsey. Also why do you think it is that there are so few women directors even though plenty of film graduates are female?

Some of those might be born in the Ukraine or other places with "UK" in their place of birth. I can't specify it to just find those born in the UK, only those with "UK" somewhere in their place of birth.



Some of them might also be involved in the seedier side of film-making



But there are quite a few there for you to investigate.



Many of them have only directed one piece of work, and that's often just a documentary and/or short. But see how you get on.



As for your own career path, note how many of these have also done lots of other jobs in the business, working their way up to director. It is a male dominated industry and there's no quick and easy route to becoming a director. But don't let that stop you trying
