And as for

2. Is there a difference in male and female directors?

Of course there's a difference. You should ask if there's a difference that affects their work

There are more male directors because women had to pay more efforts to impose theirselves, it was not easy, Ida Lupino is a great exemple....

Also, it's not really a problem, I think, 'cos good "male" directors can exprimed very cut and clever points about (from) women...
