Who's Mulvey?
so as part of my primary research i need to conduct a survey so i'd be grateful if as many of you answered these questions as possible
In her roles, how do you think Hedren plays to the male gaze?
What form of male gaze is she? Voyeuristic of fetishistic?
Why is her work on famous with Alfred Hitchcock?
How does she fit any of Mulvey's other theories?
Do you think her roles are phallocentric?
Cheers :)

Some of these questions just don't make sense. I don't understand them and neither do youy - which is why you want us to do your assignment for you!
Why not watch some of her movies and work it out for yourself?![]()

I'm glad I'm not the only one who couldn't make any sense of this![]()
Just watch Roar a couple of times and all will become clear...

I'll try.
Yes, I think she does play up to the 'Male Gaze' - it's almost inevitable for a Hitchcock leading lady, it was one of his near-constant themes. Plus she was barely an actress when he cast her - she had been working as a model.
I would plump for Fetishistic; the focus on her legs, the high heels, and also the echo of sado-masochism in the bird-attack and its aftermath in Birds.
Not quite sure what you mean - if you're asking why she is best remembered for these Hitchcock roles, it's probably because she didn't get a decent role in a film by a decent director afterwards. Apart from Chaplin's A Countess from Hong Kong, a disappointing flop, she would never work for someone with a similar talent. Whether she refused such roles, or failed to get them because Hitchcock guided her in a way other directors wouldn't or couldn't, or even typecasting, is anyone's guess.
Laura Mulvey?? Haven't read her theoretical works, sorry.
I don't particularly recall much phallocentricity; plenty in Vertigo and North by Northwest, but not in The Birds....years since I saw Marnie, so maybe...
Laura Mulvey - that name explains everything. I'm reminded of that great line in The Silence of the Lambs, when the FBI chief says to Starling, "You don't want Hannibal Lecter inside your head."
Batman, so pleased to see you support Chelsea, it must be very distressing having to live in budgie, sorry, Canary County, said with feeling from I.T.F.C. supporter.
Yes, and who is Mulvey?
The only comment I can make is that Hitchcock always put that type of 'intellectual cold' blonde in his pictures rather than 'hot and dumb' stereotypes. I haven't got my Oxford dictionary near-bye to answer any more.
Tippi Hedren?? Dear God..I'd have to look up her listing in Who's Nobody first.
What an odd choice.
I'm sure Tippi has many fine qualities and is a lovely woman, but she's not exactly a top notch choice for a 'women in cinema' analysis. Let's be brutal, shall we? She may be a lovely creature but she's hardly an icon.
Hitchcock may have cast Tippi, but he was probably thinking about Kim Novak.

Or Grace Kelly, whom he really had a thing about.
Since Leo G Carroll was actually Hitchcock's favourite actor, it would nice to see the occasional essay on the role of the pinstripe instead of the endless stuff about the icy blonde...the male gaze...zzzzz
Mmm, what about the female gaze: Hitchcock Hunks:
Cary Grant
Paul Newman
Rod Taylor
John Gavin
Richard Todd
Farley Granger.
Wouldn't include Leo G Carroll here, sadly. Or Anthony Perkins
Gypsy
