    Bonjour Terry

About agutterfan

Basic Information

About agutterfan
Biography:
Cineaste, from silent comedy classics (Laurel & Hardy) through classics of World Cinema (e.g. Bergman, Bunuel, New Wave) to modern indies (Broken Flowers, Snow Cake). Also fan of ITC 60s series (McGoohan is God!) and The Avengers (Emma Peel, definitely). Worships Jenny Agutter (has been known to watch any old rubbish if Jenny is in it), though don't tell Catherine Deneuve as she thinks she's the only one!

Grew up in 60s & 70s with a shared culture of British Film & TV - Ealing comedies, St Trinians films, Peter Sellers & Terry-Thomas & Carry Ons, Lean's blockbusters, Hammer & other British horrors, ABC Saturday morning club (and the Children's Film Foundation), Pearl & Dean, 60s ITV action series (The Prisoner etc) & BBC comedies (Til Death, Steptoe etc), Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation ("anything can happen in the next thirty minutes!") Watch With Mother (and the Testcard!), Oliver Postgate's Smallfilms (e.g. "Bagpuss") "Kitchen Sink" Films (e.g. "A Kind of Loving"), Morecambe & Wise Christmas Specials, 70s Dr Who (Pertwee & Baker my Doctors), the summer Saturday BBC horror double-bills (one Universal B&W, one colour normally Hammer), in fact the BBC Saturday night schedule, first Colour TV set rented (nobody bought TVs then) for the Royal Wedding 1973, the entire 6th form discovering "Monty Python" and yes we endlessly quoted sketches, The Sweeney on Thursday (should have seen our school the next day). The premiere of James Bond movies on British TV was a major event! All in a pre-digital, pre-video, pre-multichannel 24hour TV days when you switched on the TV 5 minutes before programme started to let the set 'warm up', when TV closed down around midnight, and if 2 programmes clashed - tough, you had to choose.
Country Flag:
UK
Interests:
Cinema, TV, reading (JG Ballard, Thomas Hardy, Sherlock Holmes)
Occupation:
Full-time Human Being
Favourite British film?:
The Railway Children (1970), but really there are far too many (Lindsay Anderson Powell/Pressburger)
