Nantes is a marvelous city and we visited on 3 occasions, once by train from Ancenis (very impressed by the fast & comfortable & cheap rail fares) and the other 2 times by Park & Ride with connecting Tram ride to City Centre (7.70 Euros = £6.16 for 24 hr family ticket). Very hot at 30C on Saturday we sat & eat our bread & local cheese next to the moat by the Chateaux. We brought back some local cider & wine of course & often sat out at cafe's for cafe au lait and chatted and watched the people pass by....
We managed to get a ride on the famous mechanical elephant too.....

I'd like to get down to the South of France for our next visit....it'll be a 3 day drive from Roscoff....

We're staying on a small site in a chalet and an indoor pool near some lakes so plenty of water sports. Jane speaks a little more French than me.
Just taking the grandson aged 10....my 3 other children are a bit too old to want to come with us...

I thought you might be interested to see this photo I found taken at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival...4 of my favourite directors all in a row...



The festival that year had to be cancelled due to the strikes & riots that were happening in Paris. Looking back it seems strange that they needed to cancel the festival because of what was happening hundreds of miles away....but maybe the unrest was spreading..??
Were you in Paris at this time Catherine? or do you have memories of this time...? Maybe you had friends/acquaintances who were involved with the strikes/riots...?
