Hey,
I made this trailer yesterday, in the course of about 5 hours after getting home from school. The footage wasn't meant to be shot for a production purpose, it was just amatuer footage shot at a Woodland when I took my dogs there. No tripod. I did use a tripod for the small out-house scene though.
There was no plot in shooting this, but I did try and sequence it so you can get the idea of someone getting away in a black van. I then show myself in first person running around like an idiot I guess, hearing a woman scream. Hopefully these two could be pieced together. I dunno!
I guess this is more for review on my editing. I used Sony Vegas 7.0 to edit this and filmed it with my Panasonic SDR-H81. The music is from some film soundtracks on my PC; Van Healsing theme and a Nightwish track I believe.
So yeh, I'm really looking for some advice on anything I've done wrong (which there will be a lot, I know). This is my first public trailer I've done, and have barley worked with real footage as opposed to machinima footage. Let me know, sorry if it's going to scar you because it's so terribly bad

Needs to maybe be slowed down for horror, and to create atmosphere and tension.

Agreed, a little too fast on the zoom facility maybe, but keep on trying, with enough dedication i'm sure you'll make it someday, don't give up as in twenty odd years time you'll say to yourself 'if only' as it's always better to have tried than to have never tried at all, all the best to you.![]()
Thanks guys, I've written a brief script for a new trailer that I will film properly now (Y). This was an experimental piece, but the idea of slowing it down and perhaps speeding it up to increase the momentum of the film has really helped me in planning something new.
I'll try some slower zooms too :)
I won't give up Mark, it's all about a learning experience for me at the moment :). And true to that phrase!
Thanks for your help guys. G
If you don't try..........You don't get......I tried,, in fact my wife said I'm very trying.....

Here is how you can create horror and show practically nothing. Darkness and a flashlight.
As a first go it's not bad. Too much of a partly-digested Blair Witch thing going on though. Look at English horror traditions, slow down (a lot) and realise that what you don't say, do, or show (in audio as well as visuals) can be far more effective than any amount of contrived "drama".
Depends also on whether you want to be an award-winning artist, or a commercial success with no soul. Both, is a very rare gift indeed.
But go for it, and good luck.
