According to Wikipedia 'flicks' is of English origin ....
''A film (movie), so-called due to the flicker of the image'' ''Flicks is an old English expression referring to the Cinema or building where films are shown. Example usage, "Are you going to the flicks tonight?". Less often used today. More recently replaced with the words cinema or "The Pictures" (which is in turn derived from "the picture house").'' Bats. |

Nothing to do with Scottish geezers....... I mean guisers..... is it?
Why did that old trade magazine spell cinemamatograph with a k ? Seems a bit German............. How come 'movies' never became 'talkies'........ I recall Wreckless Eric sang, "Can I take ya to the flicks/See a cheap and nasty film" once upon a time. Obviously they only had American films at his local flea-pit. |
