Default Should it be 'Britmovie?'

Hullo folks. I mentioned this site to a workmate, who is a lot more clued-up than me on films. He pointed out that if it is a site for British films, why is 'movie' in the title, as this is an American term. I could not help but agree. Still a good site, though, and has helped me. Cheers.

At the time britfilm was a Film Council website and britcinema had been carpetbagged. I picked britfilm up some years later after the FC underwent another makeover but by then the site was established. Britmovie kinda works as a site name.

My guess was going to be that it was probably for the same reason that you chose to sign up for a British film/movie/picture site using the name of an American comedian.

Also, because it serves to introduce Americans (and other nationalities) to British films

Maybe the forum should be called Brittalkie........

I actually find the term Brit far more off-putting than the term movie. I don't know why that should be..... probably all that cool brittania crap a few years ago.

Britflicks might be nice or Britpics.

When I was a kid we used to go to 'the pictures'. What did you call them?
How do you do a vote/poll thingummy?

why am I asking all these questions?

Since most 'British' films are made with American money I see 'Britmovie' as knowing wink.

Whatever the title, this is a very nice and informative site.

And I had no idea "movies" was a specifically American word. I must do my homework...

Default Britmovie - should it be?

I guess we're all victims of 'globalisation' these days - but I do like the BRIT component because it leaves no doubt as to what we're looking into. I'm not so sure about 'movie' I'm far more open to 'film' as it takes me to the UK as well... which is my preference. How very astute of you Groucho or should I say Grouch's friend! I was just pondering the difference between movies & films as I was wandering around this forum last night. Thanks guys.

How about calling the site Assfilms - Anglo Saxon Selected Films.

Or PommieFilums - which would be instantly recognizable around certain parts of the world.

Dave.

My dad always used to say that as a child him and his friends used to go to the `flicks` to watch Roy Rogers or some other tripe on Saturday mornings. I suppose Flicks is just another Americanism though.

"What larks we had Mr Pip...........what larks !"
