My interest is in older women in British comedy, being mainly interested in pre-1970. By older I mean middle-aged and upwards! I would love to hear any recommendations for performers and films to add to my research. I'm trying to track down Alive and Kicking (1958) with Sybil Thorndike and Kathleen Harrison starring as escapees from an old ladies' home. I've started a blog about my older women - would it be permissible to publicise it on here? I'm not sure as to the etiquette and do not want to be presumptuous! So far have one main entry about Hattie Jacques in Carry On Matron.

Wait around a few years and they'll all be middle-aged or older.......

    I hope.......

Two for the price of one here, plus an old geezer for luck....

Thankyou Mr. Larkin - what a splendid poster! Apparently Agatha Christie was underwhelmed by Rutherford's casting, although she is a distinct improvement on the original I think.

Hattie was 50 when she did Carry On Matron. Is that what passes for aging now?

Though she dedictated The Mirror Crack'd to Rutherford who she personally liked.

Thankyou so much Windyridge - the thread is ageing gold. I happened upon the delights of Nurse On Wheels - Athene Seyler, Esma Cannon, Joan Sims, Joan Hickson and Renee Houston. A splendid array of talent across the ageing spectrum. Juliet Mills does a noble job of being perky and resilient, but her elders bring all the interest to the narrative.

Dora Bryan and Rita Tushingham - A Taste Of Honey - Quality film, Quality actresses. Dora won a BAFTA for her performance. Sadly, due to illness does not remember about many of performances but does remember this every time she cleans her award! Lovely lady.
