- Forum Raison d'etre
The Britmovie site was created in 1998 as a diminutive reaction to the excess of film websites devoted to contemporary Hollywood blockbusters; with only a handful focusing on Britain’s rich cinema heritage. Over the years the site has evolved, always attempting to be a platform for those across the globe seeking information, discussion and assistance on British film throughout its turbulent history. The most common question is why ‘movie’, isn’t that an oxymoron? Yes it is, but at the point of conception there was no available ‘film’ or ‘cinema’ domain and the moniker ‘Britmovie’ came to exhibit an unexpected symmetry that was both fitting and memorable.
- Forum Etiquette
We aim to maintain a community that is both friendly and informative; and the forums may be moderated with this objective in mind. When contributing to the site please ensure your posts are cordial and free from racist, sexist and xenophobic comment. Do not harass fellow members or openly insult them - if you are angered by the contents of a post please report it to a moderator.
- Off-Topic Discussion
The Britmovie forum features an off-topic area for minimal broader general discussion. Please note, this site is not a chat board, nor is it meant to be one. This kind of chit-chat is generally destructive to good discussion and has little relevance to the subject of films and cinema; and will frequently annoy the general membership. Excessive creation of irrelevant, boring, childish or unintelligent threads may be deleted at the moderator's discretion and may result in possible feature limitations. Kindly use the chat feature for private banter.
- Multiple Accounts
Dual alias or sock puppet accounts are forbidden. This means, don't create an account just so you can anonymously misbehave or trade under a pseudonym identity. Those discovered running multiple accounts will have them all deactivated whilst the matter is investigated.
- What is an Established Member?
In an attempt to encourage new members to participate in the forum film discussion we've set a 3 post minimum before you are allowed access to the 'Looking for a Video/DVD' forums. Rather than post 3 meaningless additions to meet the requirements, do please introduce yourself HERE and try to engage in the lively debates with other users. Thank you.Three consecutive irrelevant posts aimed at merely reaching the quota will likely result in your account being frozen.
- Trading
This purpose of this forum is for enthusiast-to-enthusiast trading and not for straightforward profiteering. Please refuse to pay what you consider an excessive price.
- Requests or offers for commercially available titles will be removed.
- Requests or offers for non-UK titles will be removed.
- Outright title offers that are not in response to a user request will be removed.
- Users discovered duplicating titles to directly sell on elsewhere will be banned.
- The posting of email addresses is no longer permitted and they will be removed.
- If you are unhappy with the behaviour of a buyer or seller please PM a moderator. All messages will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
- If you are an established member of the site, be wary of sending titles to new members first. Ensure you receive a remuneration before posting goods no matter how genuine a user appears.
- The site admins reserve the right to moderate these community forums to maintain the spirit of mutual cooperation for which they were intended.
- This is a British film community seeking to assist fellow aficionados NOT a trading forum. Those found to be using the forums for the sole purpose of trading may face having their membership terminated without warning. If you wish to indulge solely in film trading pleased visit a dedicated forum such as the alt.video.tape-trading newsgroup.
