I thought those 'updated Universal' films were well-done and when FOYLES arrived, I found myself giving them the same fervor as they explored some of the smaller 'slices of life' of that time.
I used to often think of the Universal Holmes films when watching Foyle's War ... I think they should have filmed Foyle's War in black n white.

I think I've missed this thread's existence.

OK... Aaryk Noctivagus here (my proper pseudonym, but not my real name)...

English and 41 years old (for a month or so yet), married to Irene (for 19 years this month), who is Swiss... two children, Rachael (6) and Robert (3.5).

I am a High Functioning Autistic (a similar thing to Asperger's Syndrome but with a few slight differences - Don't watch 'Rainman', watch 'Snow Cake'), and in 2002, I went down with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

I write the odd screenplay (none produced into movies yet) and compose the musical scores to micro-budget British movies... the chances are you've not heard of any of them... only one has obtained distribution ('The Jigsaw of Life' - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0791080/ ) but I don't think its quite on sale yet - I haven't checked the Distributer's site for ages.

I've had a life-long love of movies which probably started with the two 'Thunderbirds' movies and 'Doctor Who' features back when I was a young child. As far back as I can remember, I wanted to tell stories on film (not act, but be the Director). When 'Star Wars' came out in 1977, my folks couldn't afford to take me to see it... and it was several years before I finally did. However, imagining what this wonderful movie might be like, started me writing my own Science Fictional adventures and then narrating them onto tape with added music and sound effects. I had two old cassette recorders and a record player which I mixed everything together on by over-recording in layers.

I read and watched everything about film-making that I could lay my hands on.

After I left school I wrote and Directed a couple of taped dramas for Dorset Tapes for the Handicapped, and it is about that time that I started composing. (This was during the early 1980s). The first film score I heard on record was 'The Black Hole' by John Barry, back when I was still a school boy.

I got married in 1988 while I worked as a Postman... and had the joy of sharing many wonderful movies with Irene, since she had seen so few at the time and shares a similar taste to me.

Since 2002 (everything changed for me in 2002), I have worked on almost 20 movies, mostly shorts but four were feature length. On most, but not all, I was the composer... I've provided music for around 15.

Movies are my obsessional subject. Most High Functioning Autistics have at least one subject they are obsessional over. I adore movies. OK, I don't specialise in British ones especially, but have a respect for them and any well-made (and many not so well made) movies.

Well that's a little bit about me. I'll stop before I completely bore you all - lol

Thumbs up First post

Hello to all. Just become a member and thought I would say hi by putting up a posting.

Among the many many other fine actors and actresses covered on these forums I haven't yet see anything about two of my favourites Dudley Sutton and Geoffrey Palmer both of whom fall into the 'if they're in it then it can't be all bad' category. Dudley Sutton is always a pleasure to watch and their can't be many actors who look so distinctive that can be so completley believable in such a wide range of parts ( take a bow Percy Herbert, another favourite ). I am huge admirer of Geoffrey Palmer and whilst his roles tend to be of certain general type he is a master of nuance and subtlety ( that voice! ) . He is also a very very nice man - I had the great pleasure of working with him some yesrs ago on a very modest project. He arrived amiable and well-prepared and gave every impression the same importance to my job as he did to his more prestigious engagements.

Anyway, I look forward to contributing to this excellent again in the furure :-)

Simon

Bat, don't encourage VanB - he's obviously landed here only to torment me - listing an End Of World film that I not only don't have, haven't seen but can't get the DVD for! What could be MORE insidious than that?!!

(OK, OK, don't answer that.)

This is going to be a long, long day...

You're not going to sucker me into THAT debate. I've done fairly well avoiding Max as well as Dirk. Well, I have a few of each, but I'm NOT hooked on them. I can quit at ANY time...
