Hello everyone, this is my first post, having stumbled on this site & forum just two days ago ! I cannot believe there are so many like-minded people out there and I`m so glad to have found you.
(Obviously) I love British films, but (to save me a fortune on DVD`s) I limit myself to films actually `set` in Britain.
My tastes are very broad, ranging from 30`s & 40`s comedies, to 60`s & 70`s horror, and right up to the modern gangster flicks. Some of my favourites are ; Ask a Policeman & Oh, Mr Porter. No Limit. Great Expectations. Get Carter. Vampyres. Withnail & I. Remains Of The Day. 28 Days Later. and so on......

BTW - apologies to anyone else who uses this avatar........but I do come from Wigan !

Hello crush231, welcome to BritMovie.
Don't wonder too much about Aaryk's reply to you. Many of us don't understand what he's on about much of the time either

Smile Introduction

Hi, Anarchic Rooster here. This is my first time and I'm looking forward to being part of what looks like an interesting forum. Maybe I should start off by asking where one might get that topical film about Canterbury during the war? And what's the rave about the Flaxton Boys?

Topical film about Canterbury during the war? Do you mean A Canterbury Tale (1944)? That's available from Amazon UK (marketplace) for the bare-bones DVD or the Criterion DVD with all the commentary and extras is available from Amazon US.

Or did you mean the documentary Message from Canterbury (1942) with the address from the Archbishop?

Wink Hello!

Hi!, my name is Mark and I hail from Canvey Island in Essex, my favourite era for British films is late 40's, 50's/early 60's.......I could watch them for hours!......some of my faves are Robbery, Hell is a City, Peeping Tom, Woman in a Dressing gown (a fine drama) It always rains on Sunday, This Happy Breed, Brief Encounter, A kind of loving, Saturday Night Sunday morning (another masterpiece), and many, many more Movies of the era with the likes of Stanley Baker, Lawrence Harvey, Vanda Godsell, Thora Hird, Barbara Shelley, Shirley Anne Field in them.

I'm also a Music fan too, again mainly Artistes of yesteryear such as Matt Monro, Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, the Beatles, Maria Callas, Diana Ross, etc;

Looks like I'm going to be at Home here!

Hi Mark O, and welcome to the forum

I once worked on a Science Fiction short that had some scenes set on Canvey Island (though submerged)... but I don't think they actually filmed there.
