I wasn't a fan of the more "serious" comics, with all that action and adventure and war and suchlike.

I liked BRASSNECK - I think he may have been in Sparky but aren't sure.

Recently when a group of friends are gathered, or with people at work, I've mentioned Plug from the Bash Street Kids and invariably everyone remembers him. So I ask them to draw him.
Some of the attempts really are hilarious!

I started with Dandy and Beano and progressed to Wizard and Champion and then Dan Dare came on the scene. I seem to recall a character called Wilson in the Champion? who seemed to wear one garment (which he never took off!) and performed etraordinary feats of endurance and bravery. Was he in the Champion?

Hi guys - very new at this but I really love this forum and glad I found it. Regards from Melbourne, Australia.

Hi there - were 'The Phantom' Comics British or American? I remember them as a favourite with my 3 brothers and of all they collected I enjoyed them most.

Hi Britmovie Buffs - I've just joined and I'm finding it a little difficult to navigate around this site but learning by my mistakes. I'm located in Australia, love British films heaps more than American, for their clarity in story telling - like reading a good book really. I find however that the market is flooded with US movies out here and so this is a refreshingly great find. Our ABC screens old B&W Brit films in the wee small hours of the morning, so I'm somewhat 'punch drunk' the day after I've watched one of them. Look forward to reading your comments in the future and hope I can contribute to your community as well. I've found some very entertaining posts already, to your credit. Thanks for that.

I get very nostalgic when thinking of all those great comics of yesteryear.

Beano, Dandy, Film Fun, Beezer, Topper, Lion, Tiger, Valiant, TV Comic, Hotspur, Victor, Valiant, Knockout, Eagle, Roy Of the Rovers.....ect...ect...
I later progressed to Charles Buchan's Football Monthly.

Of course the occasional "Free Gift" in each comic used to ensure that sales went up.
And of course, one of the highlights of Christmas was receiving a few annuals in the sack.

Wonderful memories.

Dave.

Hi gang

Just sticking my head round the door! Saw this place through Google looking up something suitably obscure and this place came up trumps!

Hello, I've joined to help do research for our local village am dram group. We are currently staging J B Priestley's "When We Are Married" and I had hoped to find a copy of the TV play.

We are keen movie go-ers and have the luck to live near The Rex Cinema in Berkhamsted, a privately owned 1930 restored cinema.

Default Intro

Hi all

As per the guidelines, i'm introducing myself.

I stumbled across this website whilst googling for something, and i've trawled the corridors here for the past few days.
An excellent website without a doubt !!

I'm a 43yo Aussie, married with 2 kids.
I love British movies/shows moreso than the American junk.

My favs would have to be On The Buses, and Dr In The House.

I like a lot of the old UK war films too.

I've never been to the UK, but would love to get there one day.
I have had a penfriend in the UK for near 30 years now, and whilst we have swapped pics etc over the years, have never met.
My wife's aunty and uncle came over (from the UK) for a holiday a few years back, and they were great people.
Her uncle was a real "bloke's bloke" if that makes sense, and was into sport like i am, and conversations with him re soccer and darts just made me want to go there even more !

Anyways, enough from me.

Hope to speak with a few of you re movies in the coming months.

Hi. I've just joined having found this site by accident while searching for info on an old TV movie. My home is in Scotland, so I'm hoping that a little Saltire will somehow appear automatically as the flag icon! I don't have much time to spend here (far too many active interests; e.g. gardening, family history, and so on) but I shall try to contribute from time to time.

Hello & welcome Dr Chris.
Your saltire won't appear automatically until you tell the system you're from Scotland, not from the UK.

Click on User CP to the left just under the banner at the top of the page.
Then click on Edit profile in the Control Panel on the left
In the first main box on that page there's a section about Home Country (as opposed to current Location).
Select Scotland as your Home Country and you'll get your saltire
