Hello everyone.. Just wanted to say Hi as an introduction..I have just registered ...(UK born and bred.. hail from northern parts)and reading through some of the posts certainly relived memories of movies i had long since forgotten. My main interest has been British TV... and just before xmas purchased dvds of Billy Liar, Strange Affair, Budgie, Public Eye Adam Adamant, Alfred Hitchcock Presents..although i love unusual, older British movies too..dont have that much to trade but would love to purchase some obscure 60s and 70s films..and would hope to contact some of you guys direct on that point....cheers Stevedr!

Hi Steve,
It's good to see you here. I will look forward to your views as I find Southerners and Northerners often have differing views on what's funny. There is a good crowd of people on this site and an astounding lot of knowledge! Best wishes |

Thanks for that welcome...its an interesting thought that north and south could look at humour differently...I was on here earlier asking if anyone had an old Hale and pace show i was looking for...however i was watching a clip from another of their old videos today..and there is a song called the Northern Calypso..which is a southern take on what makes a northerner funny..with full working class dress, over indulgent ,loud, drunk..all the usual cliches...pie and pint in the pub...overeating..outside loo etc..but i thought it was really funny actually...interestingly..they make a number of references to the north from the south point of view in their sketches......oddly enough perhaps i find London humour the very best ..only fools classic lines....rhyming slang from the Sweeney...not the nine oclock news....Bless this House..Carry Ons..etc...if it's funny.....it's funny..simple. The only thing i dont like is swearing for the sake of it..also some of the sillier Scottish comedies Rab c Nesbit...not keen on all that.. cheers Steve Last edited by stevedr; 07-01-2007 at 11:15 PM. |

I just registered on this site and thought I would introduce myself.
Residing in deepest East Yorkshire I am fast approaching the Big-50. Some of my fav. British films, in no particular order are : This Happy Breed, The Railway Children, Great Expectations, Hobson's Choice, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Thirty Nine Steps (Robert Donat version), Great Expectations, This Sporting Life, Billy Liar, The Italian Job, Oliver!, The Battle of Britain, Life Of Brian, and anything starring Arthur Lucan as Old Mother Riley. If anybody is interested in the life and career of Arthur Lucan, I can recommend a visit to my website....The Arthur Lucan/Old Mother Riley Website This is the only website on the net solely dedicated to the great man and his career. I look forward to reading around here and getting a feel for the place. Cheers. Martyn (aka Petuaria Pete) |
