Default Hi - Childrens Film Foundation fan

I am interested in films I used to watch as a child, in particular those from the Children's Film Foundation that I used to watch at a saturday cinema club. The series that particularly sticks in my mind was set in Egypt, which I think may have been "the valley of the kings" but I have been unable to locate it to confirm either way. Interested to hear from other enthusiasts for these films.

Hi to all members, I'm new to this form of communication but thought I would give it a go. I'm keen to share knowledge on hard to access tv dramas and films. The language is interesting-threads etc. Thus i'm looking for a gentle intro and welcome any feedback. Ian

By the way can anyone explain this 3 posts thing? Am I doing it right? Ian

The idea is that you make a worthwhile comment in various forums
It's the polite thing to do, to contribute something before you ask for something

Hello all,

I'm another greenhorn, I'm afraid. I'm very interested in the British Transport Films (particularly since I can find no evidence of such a type of film existing in any other national cinematic opus) and in British comedies in the line of the Ealing Comedies. My expertise comes in French and Spanish cinema, but I wish to be educated about British film (leaving the UK has given me a whole new appreciation of British TV-films, for example).

New to this forum, the more i watch old British films i'm often surprised how good some are.
films like Kind Hearts and Coronets and Peeping Tom, but television is something i have mostly enjoyed, my faves The Prisoner and Hancock. Grew up watchin Bill & Ben (60s), Benny Hill (70s)
and the Young Ones (80s)!

Hi Boris,

Good to see some first-timers like myself logging in. How did you make your own thread to make your introduction. I'm not great with computers and can't seem to do it. Would love to introduce myself to everyone. Can you (or anyone else) help? Thanks, Yvette

Hi there!

Slightly belatedly, I am introducing myself as a new member. My name is Graeme Sutherland; I'm forty-two and live in Coventry.

I love British film (all film really) and TV - especially TV of the 60s and 70s. My favourite British filmakers are probably the Archers - haunting, vivid, mysterious and full of nostalgia. I can't name favourite films it goes on and on and is always changing.

I love chasing up TV from my early childhood or before I was born - I've recently enjoyed (for the firts time) Redcap, Gideon's Way and the 1966 series of Public Eye. I'm currently watching all the extant episodes of Doomwatch. It is wonderful to see literate scripts and all the guest stars I recognise from Brit-flicks.

My dad worked at Shepperton studios when I was a boy - and I used to play round the sets. The best was the Oliver! Victorian London set - an extensive mini-city i amazing detal, just left there from the musical and reused in countless movies and TV shows for years afterwards.

You could also find all sorts of stuff on skips and thrown in the dump. I had a pair of wings from Flash - that one of the bird-men wore. I used them as fancy headboard for my bed - really impressed the ladies ("I'm gonna fly you into space, doll!"). No, it didn't really work, you're right...

I'm an English and creative writing teacher currently in Adult Ed - I escaped from secondary school in a strait-jacket (cunning ploy, I thought). I have written comedy sketches for TV and radio and got a few used. Don't get enough time for writing - but starting my award-winning novel is going to be this years New Year's resolution, so only three weeks or so to go then...

Great site, everybody. I'm really enjoying catching up with all the discussions and interesting facts. Hope I don't make too much mess of it, being a newbie...

Graeme

Graeme Sutherland? Coventry? Isn't there a link?? But welcome to the forum anyway! I've not been here long myself, but I'm finding it interesting and fun, I'm learning a lot and, unintentionally, I seem to be ruffling a few feathers as well! Sorry chaps!!

However, the administrator, moderators and long-standing members are very helpful, so if you need any advice just ask!

That was Graham Sutherland. Artist Johnny. Black sheep. Funny picture of old Winston... Don't talk about him in the family.

Default My introduction!

Hi Everyone! I'm 'brand new' and very much looking forward to being part of the British Film Forum - it seems like a really interesting and useful site. I'm most interested in british comedies, both film and TV, particularly George Formby films and the Alan Aykbourn plays. Anybody out there with similar tastes?

Bye for now

Yvette
