Hello, I found the forum after seeing the intro. to the Brendon Chase on youtube, a television series I'd long ago given up hope of seeing again. It seems to have been lost to the UK when Thatcher did for Southern TV in the early eighties. A number of postings give me hope that one day I'll be able to see it again, this time with my children.

Hello all, as the name suggests I'm a big fan of early aviation films. I'm quite well involved in vintage aviation circles and keen to collect those rare cine gems that come to light every so often.

Cheers,
Be2c

Smile elizabeth

to all those people who are looking for the BLUE SCAR FILM -If you contact the www.screenandsound.llgc.org.uk OR the national screen and sound archive of wales people in cardiff, then you might be able to obtain a copy of this film on video or dvd. I did as my grandfather was in the crowd scene.

Hi everybody! I'm new here, my name's Trystyn but everyone calls me Tricki or variations on that. Although I adore British movies, I'm here mostly for the TV show discussions. A lot of them don't air here anymore, so I needed an outlet :P

Hoping to make lots of The Royal/ Inspector Lynley friends over here (They are my favourite TV shows).

Take care!

This is such a wonderful place. I'm hoping to make some Heartbeat friends - that is by far and away my favourite TV show.

Hello Everybody,
As an almost 63yo. I don't seem to have much time for today's films, unless it's an epic. My genre is the British films of the 60s, with the likes of Stanley Baker, Diana Dors, etc.

As a young boy my pal was Jon Whitley, around the time he was making films such as Moonfleet, Spanish Gardner, etc. He was a few months younger than myself, and I believe he is a professor at Oxford now.

About 20 years ago, Mandy Miller became a near neighbour. She is a delightful lady.

Best, Davie.

Hi Nathan,

I'm with you on Heartbeat. Love the music. ITV3 (?) is re-running the earlier episodes just now. Great.

Default Hello

(I'm not really the famous ladies' help, merely borrowing her moniker.)

What a smorgasbord this is for the British film fancier!

My favourite era is the '30s, particularly anything with the Gainsborough lady at the start. Launder & Gilliat as writers and directors are the most interesting, with their very wry humour and observation of life. Darkly fascinating Eric Portman is my favourite actor, Jessie Matthews my favourite musical star, and Cicely Courtneidge & Jack Hulbert my favourite comedians. Hitchcock in his British days would have to be the best director, though P&P come a close second. I also have a soft spot for the shorter films (second features?) made in the '50s with Paul Carpenter and others, usually tightly written and entertaining. (All these are featured regularly here in Australia in the depths of night.)

Films don't have to be good for me to find them interesting, in fact I enjoy the slightly wonky bits, such as Tom Walls' direction and some of his less than thrilling minor actors. The social history and design details of early films attract me as much as the magic of the cinema. I collect the sheet music from Gainsborough films, such as the Cinephonic songbook series, to play (and some to put on the wall as they're often great designs). Vivan Ellis and Noel Gay songs as sung by Jack & Cis are top of the list. I'm also collecting recordings, whether on CD or LP. The Centenary double CD of Jessie Matthews songs is a great treat. (When are her films going to come out on DVD? It's a scandal to me that they're not yet available.)

Best regards to all,
Mrs B.

Hi all
I've been lurking on some threads - some fascinating insights and some reminders of many happy TV and Film memories.

In terms of Britsh film, I'm an admirer of so many, it would be too hard to list. I've always held the work Powell and Pressburger in high esteem, having thankfully come across a number of their films on BBC at a formative age and been turned on to the greater possibilities of cinema as a result.

My Tv tastes are likewise varied and encompass old and new series, but I do miss the plays and series of old. Few programme makers seems to take the time to craft dialogue and character anymore. You'd never see the likes of Alan Plater's Beiderbecke series on ITV (or anywhere else probably) now.

It's such a crime that so little black and white and archive material makes it to terrestial television these days Younger viewers are sadly never being given the chance to experience much of our TV and film heritage.

Thanks for creating this great forum :)

Default Hello to you all...

Hi

My name is Sara have always been a big fan of films, especially the old black and white ones that I used to watch at my Gran's when I stayed with her. My friend who knows I like this sort of thing and also that I have a pretty good memory when it comes to faces and names asked me to help her with a couple of questions on a picture quiz and foolishly I agreed.

Since she sent me this damn pic I have been obsessed! I think it is a still for a black and white film - probably in the late fifties or sixties and it shows a portly built village bobby guarding a peeling wooden door. He is familiar, in fact I can almost hear him speaking in my head (and always as a policeman I think), but no matter how hard I try to recall it his name just won't come to me.

I have searched everywhere I can think of on the web to try and identify this actor and just as I was about to lose it completely I found this Site! In the past couple of days have read just about every post on every Board in the hope that one of you will be my salvation!

That's all from me.....
