Hi all, first post from a big fan of Ealing comedies (since I was force-fed them as a child by a mother who obviously knew best).

I'll be here in my official capacity as an online marketeer for the National Media Museum in Bradford as we've got the forthcoming International Film Festival coming up at the end of the month, however that's not to say that I'll clear off afterwards!

Hope to see a lot of you at the festival (two evenings of Michael Palin in coversation alongside a retrospective of his films, Kenneth Branagh, Mike Figgis, the UK premiere of Colin Farrell's new film In Bruges etc etc) but hope to talk to a lot more of you on here!

Hello and welcome. I'm hoping to get up there for the screening on March 9th of Michael Powell's Luna de meil (Honeymoon). Maybe not one of his best films but there are parts of it that are worth travelling a long way to see.

Thumbs up Introductions

Hmm sounds ominous lol. I been a collector of britsh films for a while now, mainly on the comedy side especially the classic Ealing Comedies. I am also an avid collector of British 'SCROOGE' films ranging from 1935 seymour hicks to Alistair Sims. He is Probably the best Scrooge to feature on film.I came across your site a bit by accident while trying to track down various films of which i cannot find .
I had a quick flick through your site a read various items. It seems you are doing a good job

Hi Steve - thanks for the introduction.

As I mentioned on the Honeymoon thread I'm hoping to get along to see that film as well - if you're coming along and want to say hi then I should be around!

I have! It is a wonderful interpretation, as indeed is Alistair Sim's - I think they are BOTH great!

There - you can tell I've got four children, can't you....

Default Bonjour!!!

Hi All Brit Movie Buffs and interested parties!!!

My name is Jon Johnson - grandson of Reginald Johnson - Cameraman and techie wizard extraordinaire from filming days of old (Snowbound - 1948)

I don't suppose anyone out there will have known him or knew of him but his input into the British film industry though not legend - is significant. He was a founder member of the Bournemouth and Poole College course in film making and lectured for 17 years before ultimate retirement. The resulting school is renowned for producing top-grade film and TV directors, techies etc...

Just wanted to share this with you - use the link above to see more about my Grandad.

My best regards,
Jon

Hello & Welcome Jon,
I see that Reginald was also an assistant cameraman on Hell Drivers (1957). That'll win you a few popularity points. It's often discussed around here

Smile introductions

hi.this is my first of many posts to this website.my username is johnwatson .i have been a fan of british films since seeing a tacky but brilliant sub-king kong effort called konga in 1960.can,t remember too much about it,only that itstarred michael gough.i have my own faves of the british cinema.i think "get carter" is the best gangster film ever,"demons of the mind" is the greatest horror film ever made, and "saturday night and sunday morning" the most important film ever made.i would be interested to read of other panel members lists of forgotten british films.my own list would go something like "dead cert","the good die young","the family way","vengeance of she",and "only when i larf!.thanks for reading these musings.hope to hear from some of you.

Post

hi
fond this website and not sure what i am doing but here goes
do i post threads like what i am doing now?

My favourite films -dambusters and 633 squadron and would love to get copies to show my kidsī, as i was born 1947.

i live in lappland and saw a wonderful film post 2nd ww, on the saime people who are like a very special people group up here in sweden and go back many years moving reindeers across the arctic circle and below. the film was about a young boy's journey and all the wonderful nature he saw and it was special in black and white. just after war they camped and made tents but today it is more in caravans. anyone seen it and perhaps a copy is out there somewhere. i saw in on swedish tv, 5 years ago.

any advice and use of this forum much appreciated.
i first logged on before posting, where i saw a member talking about a 70s tv artists called dianne solomon and wonder if they could contact me.

favourite singers rory gallagher and dianne solomon

Hej

I tryed to post a thread in search of how to obtain my favourite movies but not sure where to look for a reply. to think of it not sure which forum i posted the thread but have looked in famours british movies and not had a reply.

I was brought up in Lincoln, and the famous Dambuster squadron flew from a nearby airport and i watched this film as a boy in the 50s, it was bra.
A group captain -Guy Gibson got a VC for his daring work and his dog he had at that time is buried in the airport grounds. The actual bomb used to bounce down a ...dam in Germany was important to destroy an important german war monger tool. I have forgot the whole story now but would love to buy the film or get a copy. I like also 633 squadron, the music like the dambuster is great.

I hope this gets through because i believe you have to post 3 threads before i can use the forum fully.

Also i went to University with a lady called Slack, who came from Devon and his now 60 ,her name Judy Slack. Not sure if related.

I live now in Lappland, Sweden

This site confuses me as I am requested to introduce myself but without a decent pointer to go about doing so. Does a reply to a thread count? Anyway....
I am most pleased to be a supporter of such an undervalued industry.

I picked my favourite film as The Italian Job but really there are so many to choose from that I suspect any choice would be a 'cop out'.

Good wishes to all fellow subscribers
