I am quite intrigued in locating and visiting old film locations nd to see if they have changed a great deal or now even exist!
Anyway I'm sure I'll benefit from browsing through this site and increase my knowledge and appreciation of classic British films.

I am new to this board, so apologies if I muck up my post. I found it searching for info on the company raretv.co.uk / raretv.com - whose site(s) seem to be down but who have an interesting record, to say the least.
But the first post I saw in the introductions section was an old one on someone who did A P & P Canterbury Tale pilgrimage. One of my favourite movies, along with IKWIG and Col Blimp. Not to mention Peeping Tom.
British and European cinema is the best - there are rare gems from the US IMHO, but... as for a comedy, the 1940 Importance of Being Earnest and Kind Hearts.... Fabulous.
Anyway that's me.

Welcome, Moggy.

You'll find plenty of PnP fans here. A Canterbury Tale has to go down as my favourite film - after 3-4 by my absolute goddess, of course

All the best

Hello and Welcome Moggy,
Yes, we do an annual A Canterbury Tales pilgrimage every August bank holiday Sunday as well as quite a few other events. The Powell and Pressburger Appreciation Society lists all of the Canterbury events we've done as well as many others.

Are you really down in Antarctica? That's not all that far away

When we did a weekend on Mull to celebrate I Know Where I'm Going! we had some people join us from the States and one couple came all the way from Tasmania! Those people were all planning holidays in Europe anyway and they just timed things so that they could join us for the weekend

Steve - well, not far from Antarctica, may as well be there :-)
Thanks for the info on the P&P activities. It has been a wish of mine for sometime to do a trip visiting the scenes of A Canterbury Tale, and IKWIG (along with the Lerwick festival burning the boat; it speaks to my viking heritage ;-))
When I was in London in 2005 I wandered round picking all the scenes I know from movies, but was disappointed to find that 84 Charing Cross road was a wine bar or pizza shop. Oh well.... Hope to make it sometime soon, for an extended stay in the UK.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Fell. ACT is so well constructed like all P&P movies. But it speaks to so many people, like to many of their films (who could forget the speech at the end of AMOLAD?), because IMHO they put on display courtesy and civility and decency - and to think they we made when there was a terrible war going on - but one point of hte movies was to show people what it was about. Simplistic analysis. But the films for me are just so engaging.

There's a small plaque up on the wall at 84 Charing Cross Road so at least some people remember what it was

Some of the many reasons why I like them so much

You had to wait 3 hours for an answer?
They must be slipping

I love Willy Russell films but havent got that one I`m afraid.

Dont be nervous, I havent been on here long either but everyone has been friendly. Now they probably wish I would stop chuntering on , but its because I have found a place where people have the same interests as me and I cant get enough of that!

We`re changin` lodggggggggings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am especially fond of ACT as I was born in the area and my mother was in the wraf during the war and stationed around there.

Like you, I went searching for 84 Charing Cross Road last October when I was down in London for a more important reason and saw the plaque. Luckily, I more than made up for that minor disappointment when I went to a viewing at the BFI shortly afterwards

All the best

Default Hi everyone

Thought I'd sign up because BFF looks like a pretty interesting place to be....like most of you, I'm a Powell & Pressburger fan (at my sisters wedding I was introduced to a bloke who lived next door to Columba Powell who he described as "...a bit odd..."). I also have a very soft spot for "If..." because I spent a fair proportion of my youth in Cheltenham where some of the scenes were filmed, and because its a great film of course!! Look forward to chatting with you all and soaking up a bit of knowledge

Columba is a bit odd, but he's a lovely bloke

In the words of Joan Webster after she's met Col. Barnstaple and is then left alone in the room with Torquil MacNeil
Joan: He's a little odd isn't he?
Torquil: Who isn't?

Welcome to the forum
