Default Hi To All Members

Joined today, Site looks well laid out. And hopfully I will get as much out of it as I put in. Like good old Miss Marple (Margaret Rutherford) and Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) films, and some of the older TV series from the 80's.

Hello all, finally stumbled on the introductions thread by accident even though I've broke my duck already.

Found the site after looking for locations, and this is still the best thread IMHO. Will be taking a week off in the summer to trawl around as many as I can, I'm sure my kids will be enthralled!

PS How do you look back on your own post history on this forum????

Hello Rob -

And welcome to the site. Sorry to hear that you found the site a little difficult to navigate at first, but now you're here sit back, settle down and I am sure you will find the forum area users certainly to be 'user-friendly'. I'll leave the responding on the site to my elders and betters as I am far too familiar here to even think about navigating ; these days I do it on 'automatic'...

As to your film comments, you'll find there's a broad spectrum of film folks here, going from way back (Penfold springs to mind) right up to date. Speaking personally I reckon Tom Walls and Gordon Harker made some cracking films. You are very lucky to be where you are as ABC Oz TV seems to show a heck of a lot of the good old stuff.

SMUDGE

Welcome to my house. Enter freely, and of your own will...

I came upon this site quite by accident while surfing for items related to All Creatures Great and Small recently.

While I can't call myself particularly knowledgeable, I have enjoyed British film for decades, through Masterpiece Theatre, PBS and BBC. To name several, I have many fond memories of such film as:
Flambards
Danger UXB
To Serve Them All My Days
ACGS
The Prisoner
The Avengers

With that said I've enjoyed sticking my head in the door to have a look. I'm enjoying the banter as well as the knowledge that so many possess here.

Me too Dirig.... When I found this site, more by luck than anything else, I though I knew a lot about British films - Boy! how wrong was I?! Even so, I've learned a lot over the last few years and continue to do so! Welcome!

Good morning boys.

Default Introducing myself

Hello Britmovie buffs. This is my way of introducing myself. I hope it goes on the right thread! My particular slant on British films is the social history that they can contain, usually completely unconsciously, whether it be accents, attitudes, costume, or the very fabric of the location, such as the buildings, furniture, atmosphere (chimney smoke, for example) and transport. Railways are my thing, so you can imagine that Oh! Mr Porter and other films featuring trains are of great interest to me. I find it sad that when the TV companies deign to show a film made before 1950, it is invariably on in the afternoon. Many of them deserve a more mainstream showing.

Default Welcome Home

Hello Mr Porter and welcome and you may find there are more of us here with your interests than you think. I ran a transport hobby website up until last year, but music (see my website below) is a passion and cinema is lifeblood.

Look forward to seeing you post.

Best wishes

Hello Rob. I'm glad someone remembers Jessie Matthews because she was the very best. I guess, most of the members here are too young. regards, Mel Walton

Welcome, Mr. Porter.

I'm at one with your post, particularly the railways element, and I would add coal-mining and general (now almost defunct), industry.

Hello one and all, as an avid fan of watching films, British and the rest of the world, I thought I would pop in and say hi and join your merry band of like minded people.

I have visited a few filming locations and I'm looking for help with some British ones, which I will pose the question in Locations, Locations, Locations.

So this is my introduction

Roly
