Hi everyone, I am here to introduce myself, my name is Daz. I am a longtime brit movie fan from when i was a kid. I used to love to watch the Ealing and Gainsborough movies way before i was aware what an Ealing or Gainsborough film was. Some of my faves are:
Night of the Demon. Halfway House. The devil rides out. The Maggie. The Adventures of sherlock Holmes. The private life of Sherlock Holmes. In fact anything with Sherlock Holmes as a subject, especially the Rathbone's, although I am aware only the first two Sherlocks were made in England.

Arthur Wontner of course made several Holmes films, with of course The missing Rembrandt, as a missing movie Im also interested in 60's and 70's UK tv shows, and always trying to find some more to tick off my long list of shows for my collection. Hopefully I will find like minded new friends to swap a few with here. Looking forward to meeting you.
bye
Daz

Hello,
Found this site while searching for video material starring Harry Wirth. Have spent years trying to locate copies of “Here’s Harry” which I saw on New Zealand TV back in the 60’s. There is much demand for this material though sadly no suppliers. British comedy in general seems so very amusing to the colonial mind.

Smile A big hello from

bigwellfan a big fan of british films particularly 40's /50's black and white movies.

Particular favourites include

A Canterbury tale
The Holly and the Ivy
Scrooge
Passport to Pimlico
Dead of night
Innocent Sinners
Went the day well
An inspector calls
Hue and Cry
Ghosts of Berkeley Square
The Citadel

I could probably come up with many more many taped overnight or on afternoons from C4 while at work. (Hardly mentioned any war films)

I seem to associate them with Sunday afternoons and then Saturdays waiting for the football results on the teleprinter.

Also a big fan of brit pop films

I love Adam Faith's what a whopper and recently saw Cliff in Serious Charge for the first time on one of those other film channels on Sky.

I have a couple of Billy Fury films somewhere along with one with Craig Douglas and Helen Shapiro, where the mayor has banned such dangerous musicians as Acker Bilk from the town.

Look forward to getting involved and contributing regularly.

Hi,

My name's Tom, and this site was recently suggested to me by someone on the PnP listserv. I live in New York but manage to catch what I can of British cinema, which, with older stuff, isn't always easy. I'm interested both in the documentary realist tradition and in its discontents - Powell and Pressburger, Derek Jarman, Sally Potter, Nicholas Roeg, etc.

It's the latter which has been getting most of my attention lately, particularly with Andrew Spicer's book ' European Film Noir' out last Fall and Mike Keaney's 'British Film Noir Guide' about to be published in the US.

I'll want to jump in on the trading forums here but I think I'm blocked until I post at least an initial message - which I'm certainly happy to do.

Do you have a nick of filmnoir** on imdb ? If so then welcome. Come to think of it, welcome anyway :)

Default Who Killed the Cat?

Hi folks,
What a brilliant site!
It's an almost impossible task to prepare a list of favourite British movies without the enterprise becoming convuluted in the extreme, as one title suggests another and the mention of one particular performer opens the mental floodgates to other gems in which they have appeared, and so it goes on ad infinitum.
But, that being said, this certainly seems to be the place to waffle on to your heart's content on all aspects of British moviedom and I hope to be a regular visitor in the future.
Kind regards to all,
Ray Moore.

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I'm based in America but looove a lot of British indie films and old BBC television programs (which, on the whole, are hard to come by in the States) and appreciate the work of several old, fine British actors. :) One of my favorites of late is Charles Kay, which is how I found this forum when I was looking up some of his '60s and '70s TV credits.

Looking forward to participating!

Hi All,

Found this website while googling Civvies. I I've tried for years to find this and the last reply I got from the BBC was they wouldn't be showing it again due to the situation in Northern Ireland (it was about 10 years ago!!)

Default Hello from the Wilds of Scotland

Hi to all, I am a new member to this forum and I would just like to briefly introduce myself

I am a 40 something guy living and working in the Western isles of Scotland where the scenery is great (if it ever stays dry long enough!) and hence have quite a bit of time on my hands to watch fulms, classic british tv etc
Favourite film would be Restless natives with When the Wind Blows coming a close second

I am interested in trying to obtain copies of Jossy's Giants and Murphys Mob on dvd - alas a misspent childhood Ha ha 0 any help or pointers int his direction would be a bonus

Bets wishes to all and yes it is raining again!

Raining? In the Western Isles? How unusual

Edit: We even had some hail here in SW London today!

Quite a few people go to Mull regularly to celebrate and visit the locations used in I Know Where I'm Going! (1945) - and just because it's so lovely up there. A group of us went up there for an IKWIG Celebration Weekend in October 2005 - and enjoyed it so much we're going to try to repeat it every 5 years

Welcome to the forum

Steve

Hello there all...

It's a bit remiss of me that I'm only introducing myself now - having already jumped in the deep end and started posting elsewhere.

But I have to thank the members of this forum for replying so positively to my post - without the usual signs of resenting 'newbies' that you get on some forums.

I am just starting to study films, and Britmovie looks like it will be an amazing resource for me - as I am studying on my own and without benefit of 'class mates' - so this forum will provide much needed feedback to my research.

Despite coming to this field as a 'student' - films are my hobby as well. I love films, so I hope to chat along in an non-academic way too.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Steve

(Oh! I'm 47 - so maybe this is a mid-life crisis thing, if so at least it's a lot cheaper than buying a sports car! :) )

Hello - another child of the 1970s here. Great to see others talking about the obscure series I've found on IMDB - am addicted to TV drama from a time when the focus was on people and characters filmed with some space to think. I think I could spend hours here...
