Hi Everyone,
Like a lot of people here, I discovered this site by accident whilst looking for the film “Precious Bane”.
It seems to me that the community here are a very congenial lot and appear so willing to help each other out quite readily. This is a very re-assuring observation and I hope that, in the future, I will be able to contribute as well.
I am rapidly becoming an “old git”, as my son keeps telling me but I do love my movies and hope to visit this site a lot in the future.
You can guess where my next post will appear.
Keep up the good work.

Default Hi Everyone

Like a lot of others I found this site by accident. Over 40 (ouch!) years ago I came back from Sunday School and caught the end of a film on the Sunday Matinee which stuck in my mind.

All I could 'remember' was a house on a cliff, a storm, soaring piano music, and a 'blind' pianist who went out in the storm. Searching for films with a blind pianist never came to anything - and I'm wondering, after searching today, whether it could have been a sleepwalking pianist instead and whether the film could have been "Dream of Olwen" aka "While I Live". I've been searching for a dvd today and came across this site.

Love Story has a blind engineer (Stewart Granger) and a dying pianist (Margaret Lockwood) and lots of Cornish scenery. Could it be that? There's lots of soaring music anyway.

I'm pretty certain I would have registered Stewart Granger because I used to enjoy his films (especially the swashbucklers) - however I'll add it to my list of films to watch. Thank you.

Sounds exactly like Love Story, agreed, Captain!

I have to say that the film I'm thinking of felt more like a melodrama than a love story so I'm not convinced. I've looked up Love Story and some of the other details just don't fit with what I remember.

G'day to you all,
I found this site whilst hunting around for Spike Milligan stuff and have dropped in a couple of times for a squiz so I thought I'd say hello. I'm originally from Plymouth, Devon but now live in Adelaide, South Australia. I miss some of the aspects of the old country like green coloured fields (and the TV here is so bad even Doc Martin is a highlight) and others I am completely relieved never to have to think about again mainly related to the weather. I've spotted the usual divide amongst the "regulars" , and I think I'll be steering clear of the uberenthusiasts who know every soundman's wife's aunt's name but otherwise this looks like a really informative and friendly site. I also noticed that it's David Crooks birthday so Happy Birthday to him. Anyway folks, all the best from down here.

I've only ever joined one forum before this one (Green Wing!!) and I am rubbish at doing the computery stuff, but I think I'll persevere because this looks like an interesting and helpful one! See you again sometime.

Default One of the "new folk."

Hello, I’m an American with a great fondness for the old British films and the wonderful actors and actresses who helped make them so enjoyable.

The Importance of Being Earnest (1952 version), is a particular favorite of mine – as might be judged from my username. (Being something of a Joan Greenwood fan, I had been going to use Gwendolen Fairfax as my alias, but it was, regrettably, too long… however, I think Dorothy Tutin was a charming and talented actress as well.)

One of the reasons of my joining was that I had hoped to ask some questions about some hard-to-find British films, but I cannot at present post in the appropriate forums. I hope making a first post will help towards ‘getting in’ on a later date.

Well, that’s about it – good evening to you all.
