Hi all,

Just thought I'd join to chat about films in general, though I'm particularly interested in those relating to Ireland.

At the minute I'm trying to get my hands on a copy of Bill Bryden's 'Ill Fares the Land' about the evacuation of St. Kilda - as my grandad starred in it, and also just for interest's sake.

Lookin forward to getting to know everyone too.

Ciaran.

Default Hello from Toronto

Discovered this site through a google search of 'Monthly Film Bulletin'. I was trying to determine if there was an online cumulative index of films reviewed in MFB. I have several years of MFBs (60s & 70s) and it is time-consuming to search individual issue for a particular film.

I will enjoy trolling through the forums and picking up your pearls of wisdom.

Default The night my number came up

Hi.
I am Keith and I live in an Eastern suburb to Melbourne, Australia.
I cam across this website when I was trying to find a DVD of the 1955 movie "The night my number came up".
I have just registered as a new member so I need 3 postings, before I can access.

Default In search of decent repository...

Hello all,
Like most, I have happenned upon this site in the search for an older, hard-to-find title. In my case it is the 1988 Euston Films TV mini-series "The Fear", which as far as I can tell has sadly never been released on VHS or DVD - in my opinion this was a seminal late-80's brit gangster with some fine performances from up-and-coming young actors like Iain Glen, Adrian Dunbar and Jesse Birdsall. The Director, Stuart Orme, who went on to do Colditz, The Sculptress, Ghostboat etc. says that he considers this series to be one of his most important accomplishments.
Its a shame this kind of material is so hard to view these days - possibly one day every studios back-catalogue will be available as an on-line download, but until then if anyone has any idea how I could actually see this series again I would love to know...

Hello everyone

I have joined the forum as I have always had a particular fondness for post war British Black and White films - a particular favourite being "Brothers-in-law" - as I am in that line of work myself. Not much has changed at the bar I am pleased to report.

However the main reason that I have joined is that I discovered only yesterday that my mother-in-law (Moyra O'Connell) acted in a little known potboiler named "Black Memory" (1947). Notable as including in the cast one Sydney James. If you are to believe his biography on TV Heaven Black memory is rather unmemorable.

Moyra was only 19 in 1947 and is now 79 years old and just had both her legs amputated and consequently stuck at home and feeling a bit isolated and low.

I wondered if any copies of "Black Memory" still existed with any of your members or if any had seen it and could report on its merits.

Now this job was fun to do.......Mr. Nice Guy.......NOT....

A guy called Rich found some smudges from this show late 80s...

THE FEAR…
I have to go for an audition at a production office in Holloway Road North London.
(It was close enough for me to walk from the shop)
They told me they were looking for a hit man for one days work the next day.
By the time I got back to the shop they had phoned to tell me I had the job and to be at a location at eight in the morning. (Dress smart crook)
I used the same suit I wore on the Norman Wisdom show back in the 70s.
(We don’t throw clothes away in the film game we hope they will come back into fashion, I’ve still got that suit somewhere and it’s now 2003.)
Anyway I get the plot off of the director and I’m ready to do it.
"ACTION" shouts the 1st A.D. and I knock on the house door. A small boy opens the door and I brush him aside and storm through the house..
We didn’t rehearse with the boy as we didn’t want to upset him. (One take)
As I go through the house looking for the victim the small boy is taken out of the house and sits on the crew bus with his real mother. (He thought I was the rent man)
I see the intended victim through the kitchen window sitting in the garden and I pull my gun (which I put in a big brown paper bag) from under my jacket and race to the garden.. "CUT"
Now the victim is moved from the spot where I saw him to the safety of the house.
A piece of card is set where he was and I’m going to shoot at that.
(You never fire a gun, even a blank gun directly at a person)
We’re ready again and it’s "ACTION" I fire twice while the gun is still in the bag and bits of paper fly off the bag. (This was my idea) I turn to go and a woman starts screaming at me (We didn’t rehearse this bit) and she scares the life out of me..
I have to give her a hefty push out of my way and I’m gone. Now here’s a funny thing. It seems I shot the wrong man again. Where’s the nearest Specsavers???

Default The Fear

Hi Harry,

Yes, I saw your post on another thread too - sounded like a fun day.
Its a pity you never got to see the final product - I only missed one episode, and that was bad enough, and I wasnt even in it!

In David Quinlan's British Sound Films he gives it a 4 rating = good, and calls it a "gripping street-level thriller".

Start every day with a smile and get it over with.

Hey there everybody!

My name's Kelsey...I'm a Media A level student...and I'm a horrorfilmaholic. I stumbled across this site when I was googling stuff about the representation of women in action films for my coursework and signed up on a whim If anyone can suggest any films for such a subject title, it would be much appreciated. Anyway...I'm off to explore, nice to meet you all x

Thumbs down Barrie Howells

My name is Barrie Howells I was born near Merthyr Tydfil in 1960.

I am a civil servant .

Ever since I was a toddler I have loved music,. I have a huge collection of cd.s and enjoy a wide range of music including jazz sixties pop, folk, classical.

I also love films but mostly watch them on tv as I hate the modern mulitplexles, I still love the old big screen auditoriums of my childhood.

All my life I have abeen a show biz wanabee, I made my theatrical debut in 1968 in Bournemouth on a Sooty talent show. This led to further work in showbiz firslty as a tambourine mechanic on Stars On Sunday.

After this at the age of 11, I spent three years writing after dinner speaches for the likes of Cardew Robinson, The Beverly Sisters and Eli Woods.

Forum members with long running memoiries may remember me as a barman in Crossroads in 1978 who had a brief snog with Miss Diane outside David Hunters office.

I am also an author with an impressive CV, including the best selling,"12 Things You Will Want to know about Melvyn Hayes before you Die." "Hector and Miss Za, before the Heartbreak." and "The Intimate John Craven.

I am married to Bethan who loves me to bits but I thinks I am very silly.

My favourite colour is yellow and I have rarely been fussy on Lance Percival.
