Hello
I never thought of introducing myself properly unil I saw this thread. Apologies for this oversight. I am known (for reasons too murky to explain) as Batman, or just Batty. I just love films .... especially British crime films from the 40s/50s. My favourite film from this era is 'Brighton Rock'. The actor I enjoy watching the most in this genre (ever since I was a lad) is Maxwell Reed. He was (very) tall, dark and had a great voice. He also had the best head of hair in British films ... ever! He was Joan Collins first husband and was, by all accounts, a 'bit of a lad'. I believe him to be one of the most unfairly neglected figures in British films, a rare character .... even more so in this age of blandness. I also, for my sins, love westerns and my boyhood hero was Audie Murphy. As I got older I became interested in 'proper' films and actors (Brando, Hitchcock, Donat, Trauffaut, Gabin, Welles etc) and even joined the profession as a jobbing actor. Alas, my career was not successful and I now grace another noble profession ... nursing! My heart still yearns for those days of yore when everything was black and white and littered with shadows .... I am bit too young to have lived them but it feels as if I should have done. I am pleased to have found this Forum. I hope I don't talk too much. Batty |

Hi all!
I was very diligent for the last few months, trying to catch up with all the British classics. I don't know if many foreigners participate in here, but I just love the British cinema...I even tried to expand beyond the TV screen and read into "The British Cinema Book". I was surprised how the spirit of the book mostly conveyed certain discontent with the past of the British movie-making. Though, I can understand the fears about the future... I always thought world would be a poor place without Powell & Pressburger or L. Anderson or...I'll just read on and soak up on threads in here. And try to humbly participate...Great place!

Glad you like the forum. It is (as you say) a great place. Do feel free to participate - all comments and views are most welcome. As for the participation of 'foreigners', just think how poor our film industry would have been without the contributions of people who started out in lots of places away from these shores ! Hope you enjoy browsing the threads and will soon be joining in with them... Cheers ! Smudge Last edited by smudge; 19-03-2007 at 07:55 PM. Reason: Word duplication |

Hi all,
I'm an oversea student in the UK. My major is Media and TV Production. I had a lecture on British Cinema last week and I think it's interesting to find out more information about British film. It's also a way to get to know more about your culture as well as gain some experiences for my future work :) Thanks |

Hi.
Am film lecturer and occasional writer and director. If anyone has a spare 100K I'll tell them about my feature projects! (Hmm, maybe if everybody here chipped in a tenner...) Always loved the British cinema of the forties and sixties especially, and my interest was cemented when I befriended a former assistant from THE RED SHOES. Hearing about all these people from someone who was there was areal education. David. |
