Default First, want to say Greeting!

Hi, Folks. Thanks for having me aboard. I live on the East coast of the United States. I enjoy a good movie, and with what is on "PRIME TIME" TV, the time might be prime, but the fare sure isn't. CSI, Law and Order are nothing like Hill Street Blues, Streets of SanFranscisco, The Paper Chase, Moonlighting or McClintock. And I wouldn't even touch Desperate Housewives. These are all nothing but afternoon soaps put into pajamas. If I'm not watching drama on TV or good comedy or some film from a mail-rental service, I am watching some educational tv like life on an aircraft carrier, or a nature program, or National Geographic or Nova. The deeper I delve into films to watch, the more I find to watch and to ask. It's like playing one of the Indian Gambits in Chess---a lot of different paths and very Byzantine. My real motive here is to trace some voices and faces, and Ive seen 3 discussion boards that seem like they would provide the answers I need. I'll just have to post in all three of them. But in any case should any of you miss the posting, I'll post here also. I've recently seen an Hitchcock Film, Rich And Strange, with Henry Kendall, 1936 I believe. Now, his character's wife falls into a romantic fling with a guy who seems to be older for the concept of the film but probably is not older than her in real life. This character, a Commander Gordon, is portrayed by an Actor listed as Percy Marmont. Now this voice, his face, his bearing, his delivery all strongly suggest an actor I've seen many times in at least the 1960s, maybe into the 1980s, and in color films, usually a soldier/officer. but I can't think of any modern title movies or the name of this possible other actor. It has occurred to me that it is the same actor, but he has changed his name, becuase I really can't believe that even as a character actor, a person would have survived a career into the 1970s with the name Percy Marmont. I do believe that both actors might have been born about the same time, if my actor that I have in mind indeed has a twin. If someone knows this Hitchcock 1936 Rich and Strange and knows Commander Gordon, I'd like to hear if they can relate any similiarites to an actor since the mid 1950s or early 1960s. Thanks. Welcome WideScreenOwen.

Here is a link to his page on the IMDB. Percy Marmont

Percy Marmont had quite a long career. Here he is in 1926.

Welcome to BritMovie.
What you are asking is one of the many things that the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) is very good at helping with. Look up Rich and Strange (1931) and that lists all the cast, crew and various other things about it. Then if you click on the name of Percy Marmont you can find out all about him and what else he did. He has credits from 1916 - 1968 and he died in 1977 so I doubt he did much after that

If you saw him in anything after that it could well have been a re-run

Hello. I joined BritMovie today, partly because I like British films and partly because I would like to connect with other cineastes. I would really like to meet someone who could tell me whatever happened to Butcher's Film Service, Mancunian, and Blakeley's Productions. Many of the old British film studios have been absorbed into Granada International and Canal + Image UK but, apparently, not these. I would also like to know who holds the rights to Folly Films, the cottage industry film company of Fred and Joe Evans, 1910-1922. Thanks. Cheers....

Hello everyone - recent joiner to the forum and reasonably prolific reviewer on the IMDb, wide range of filmic interests and preoccupations, and don't have many blind spots. British film has been a growing interest ever since I saw the Lean Dickens and Coward films way back when, and the Powell/Pressburger collection of films as well.

Look forward to contributing as and when something catches my fancy :)

Default Longleat House

Hello, I am a newby from Australia who is sick of the American TV and films flooding our space now. They consist of sex and swearing and not much else. I am introducing those around me to the style, wit and grace of British TV and film via DVD's now available of the old TV series and films as we don't seem to get much British content on our TV any more. Because of a familial connection, I am looking for copies of any documentaries featuring Longleat House (Wiltshire). I remember seeing two, years ago, "The Stately Ghosts of England" 1964 featuring Margaret Rutherford as narrator and one, done in the 70's? I think, which toured the house and featured the family having a Christmas party in the Orangery. Any copies would be gratefully received and paid for. I would enjoy discussing any of the above with your members, and look forward to any feedback. Thanks, Have a bonza day!

There was an on-going documentary series called Animal Park on Longleat featuring both the wildlife park, the house and the eccentric hippy-esque Lord Bath and his unique fashion sense. This started in 2000 and may be available on DVD. A new series is currently being made and is presented by the likeable pair of Kate Humble and Ben Fogle:

Longleat - As featured on BBC's Animal Park

Default Hi, how are things?

I recently joined this forum. I'm a cinema aficionado from Barcelona (Spain). I basically love old movies, and British cinema has been an important part of my life.
Hopefully I will be able to post interesting topics here. All the best, amigos.
