They also seemed to attract some famous actors e.g. Harry H Corbett, Honor Blackman, Warren Mitchell. They seem to be generally unavailable but as they seemed to be rerun constantly in the late 1990s on ITV I do have most of them on video. Am also interested in other B movies from the likes of Bryanston/British Lion/Mancunian/Theatrecraft companies. I have found the locations section particularly interesting, let's face it, most films of that era were made in London, so up here in the North East am unlikely to know easily where they were shot.
Did you seen any of the b films shown by the Peformance channel on Sky a year ot two ago, they had a glut of such films for a short while, but that channel has changed its forman and now exlusively shows classical concerts (not that there is anything wrong with that.) but I do miss seeing those films.

Hello There,
My name is Mark Turner, and I served on HMS London between 1979 and 1983. Born in1963, I was brought up on the seafaring tales of many of my male relatives, and was eager to sign up as soon as I could, even though the only action the "Service " had seen in my time was the "cod war" with Iceland.

My interest with the Royal Navy has been strong throughout, the historical novels of C.S Forrester, O'Brian and others being a more recent facination.
I suppose my love for British films must be attributed to nostalgia; when it actually meant something to be British, I most certainly recall many things now lost that were cherished by many.
Till later....m
P.S.
I am building a collection of Naval material, please contact me for further information

Hi folks. My names Monty and I have no interest in films or television at all. I'm hoping my membership of this forum will change my opinions on that score...

But seriously, I blundered across the site while surfing for some research and thought it such a great spot that I had to sign up.

All the best to you!

Default Hello

Hi this is AL,
I like old b&w movies, even though they were before my time.

My all time favourite British one is Dead Of Night 1946 closely followed by the Halfway House.

Looking forward to reading others views.

Welcome

PS can you let us know a bit about the OU Course?
Thanks for the warm welcome

Here's a link to some info about the OU course - it is a broad introduction (although it is a third year course) to film and television history, covering Hollywood, British cinema of the 50s and 60s, European cinemas of the 70s and 80s (German, French and Italian, anyway) and television genres. In other words, the scope is very broad, and as such it's a decent introduction to the field, but rather frustrating (I would have loved a lot more time on British cinema, naturally ).

That's a fairly interesting and wide-ranging course! Anything that involves The Dambusters, Dracula and Adam Adamant has a lot going for it

Hello....I am new to this site and not sure how to navigate it and post. I've collected movies for over 20 years and have a great interest mainly in films made beofre 1970.
I'm in the U.S. so many of the films made in Britain and Europe during the 40's -60's were not released here. I cannot understand why Belinda Lee is not listed under the L's in your actors list. I've been searching for English prints of her "Venus of Cheronea" and "Nights of Lucretia Borgia" for years. I hope someone can help me out, here.

I have been after a copy of Nights of Lucretia Borgia for years. It would appear that only Italian language editions have survived but none of these appear to be in circulation. There's a bloke in Holland who specialises in difficult to get Italian films, but I have lost his web address. The last time I asked him he didn't have a copy though, and if he can't get one, it's unlikely that there's one out there.

I wish I had claws.

hi there, I'm Alex and I enjoy European cinema in general, not only British cinema although one of my favourite movies is actually British (Naked by Mike Leigh)

I like some b-movies as well, some retarded unintentionally funny movies or just any low-brow stuff in general

I came across this forum while looking for some cheap cinema tickets because watching movies is just my hobby while my full-time occupation is being permanently broke
