Default Introduction

Hi, my name is Neil, I am based in East Anglia and have been into movies since a kid, probably started from going to a saturday morning cinema club when i was about 9 or 10 and seeing weekly serials, then a short mystery movie before a main feature. Those were the days eh? Short features before the main ! I am also connected to the site www.raredvds4sale.co.uk and whilst they have a very large collection of movies, they do also enjoy trading with others into the same too to build up the collection!

I am particularly into Asian cinema as well as European, and dont mind the odd trip to the local multiplex to check out whats on too.

Look forward to getting in touch with a few others on here and posting a few messages!

Regards,

Neil

Hello
I live in Ipswich in Suffolk; I joined this site three days ago while searching for Mr Axelford's Angel. A ITV Playhouse production from 1974, for some reason it always sticks in my mind all these years along with The Flipside of Dominick Hide.

I bought a copy of Dominick Hide from Amazon recently but have yet to track down Mr A's Angel.
I see petandave, a member on this site, has a copy and would dearly love to contact him.

However I cannot send him a PM or reply to his post as I keep getting messages telling me I do not have permission to do so for 'one of several reasons'.
I am assuming it is because my account is waiting activation, maybe not as I can post here, who knows, I do not.

Very Frustrated of Ipswich.
Come on Guys PLEASE ACTIVATE ME!!

Looking forward to tracking down some more contacts via this site.

Rgds
Don

What the likes of Bikerdon do is just fire off a load of meaningless 'yeah I agree', 'it's ace' 'hello' posts to reach a set figure.

Then I delete them.

Which is why I referred him to the forum rules which say just that

Hi I'm doing what all the other newbies around have appeaed to have done & said hi via this thread.

Here's a little about me -

I enjoy films immensely, but do not overly scrutinise plots ect for faults, tho a glaring one will illicit some sort of comment from me. As a film Watcher as apposed to a fan/expert it is the story line/subject matter that attracts me rather than the production team inc Director & Producer - I Know it sounds rather Philistine; but having said that I do enjoy Hammer films, Amicus, Tigon & others of their ilk. I do have 'special' films I will watch again & again for a variety of reasons.

Such performers as John Mills, John Gregson, Norman Wisdom & a few others will always get my attentention. I also enjoy Will Hay, I really enjoyed Arthur Askey in 'Ghost Train'. I have learnt over the years that Critics are on the whole to be ignored. Films that get 'Immense Critical Acclaim' generally aren't worth bothering about while the reverse is generally true.

My taste in films, along with books, is Catholic, but I do really enjoy a good horror, such as 'Night of The Demon'

Hi everyone,

In googling for an old brit movie, I was led to this site as apparently a member has a copy.

Not living in the uk now makes it somewhat more difficult to get stuff, so places like this are great for us expats.

Cheers for now

I too loved "The Flipside of Dominic Hide", I believe there was a follow up shown a little later called "Another Flip for Dominic Hide" and from what I can remember it had a pretty catchy musical theme tune!

Default Colonel Blimp.

Time to say Hello, I'm David from Kent, new to this site, I've been pretty much film obsessed for the best part of my 40+ years, I have about 3000 films from all eras and genres (I always think that's not really so many to show for so many years of film-viewing, but at least I'm never short of something to watch!), and am currently enjoying some good old British classics (and a few not-so-classics!).

I can't pretend to have any interest in current cinema, I occasionally see something recent and end up scuttling back to my (mostly) 30s-70s goodies.

Favourite film-makers: Billy Wilder, Powell/Pressburger, Jean Renoir ...

Favourite actors: James Mason, Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, Barbara Stanwyck, Edward G Robinson ...

Favourite films: a varied bunch indeed ... The Manchurian Candidate (1962), The Fallen Idol, The Go-Between, The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp, The Godfather, O Lucky Man!, Viridiana, The Wicker Man, Sansho Dayu, Ju Dou, Jeux Interdits, One Two Three, Chinatown, Don't Look Now, Laura, The Hill, far too many to mention ...

Least favourites: don't get me started!

Alongside They Were Sisters, The Boys, The Guinea Pig, etc, I've also been enjoying a few late 60s and early 70s grotesqueries: Girly, Entertaining Mr Sloane, What Became Of Jack And Jill ...

I've seen a lot of requests here for films that I have, so hopefully may be able to help out a few film fans and possibly find some films I'm searching for, as well.

More later!

David.
