Hi!
I just found you yesterday via an excellent recommendation from Wawona. I am relatively new to Brit film adoration (within the last couple of years) but I am a BIG fan of many British actors particularly Tom Hollander. I maintain Thomagination—a tribute to Tom's talent and career. Wawona is my cohort in this venture. I was fortunate to meet Tom last summer when we traveled to London to see Landscape with Weapon. I am always a little shy to join new things so I think I will just quietly take a look around.

Hi, I'm a new member and this is my first post. So here goes...
I enjoy many tv series and movies - both British and American. I was kind of brought up on "Doctor Who" and my favourite British movies include "Scrooge", movies starring Michael Caine, Norman Wisdom films and tv series spin-off movies.

...and here I am, too -- thomaginator's co-conspirator. I recently had the extreme pleasure of seeing a britmovie I'd loved when I saw it years ago: Bedazzled with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore... It led me here, thinking on the incredible treasure of British film, and how much of it has been missed in my own country.

In the course of helping thomaginator put together the Tom Hollander website, I began to develop a very strong respect and interest in British theatre. I am still learning. Recently, I have become very interested in BBC radio theatre, and in particular, Bill Nighy, who has "appeared" in what must be hundreds of them. I'm on a mission to track down some of his lesser known work -- including films, and seemingly "missing" television work he's done. I'm very glad to be here!

It is great to be a new member of this wonderful site which is dedicated to the British film.

I love all of the early British films of the 1930's, and enjoyed the recent documentary which was shown on BBC4, "Truly Madly Cheaply" which was all about the British B movies.
If any of you out there have any of these, especially the one's from early 1930's , I would love to hear from you. I have collected films since the early 1980's.

As you will see from my user name, my favourite British film has to be Night Of The Demon. Although I do also like the classic British comedies of the 1950's with Terry Thomas and those made by the Boulting Brothers. The Ealing films are also a delight to watch.

I am also interested in finding out where some of these classic films were shot.

Anyway I am pleased to be a member of Britmovie, and I look forward to posting many more posts in the future.

Regards,
Dr Karswell

Default Hello to all the nice folks here.

Hello everyone, I enjoy country walks.... Sorry, wrong group!

Anyway, I've been buying up lots of British B-films as though Big Brother is never going to end and have a small collection of the many travelogue films - many of them seem to be about the Highlands but that's okay. I also like the specialist documentary shorts such as the RAF films which were shown to ground and aircrews.

Film-wise there is not one specific British film that I like more than another another as they all have something interesting in them but films such as Dunkirk stand out as not everyone is a pure 'John Wayne' type hero or coward by the end of the film and that is what I like about the clever writing in that film.

A Day To Remember (a film about a pub darts team who go out on a day trip to France) and On The Fiddle (a film about a spiv who gets conscripted into the RAF in WWII) are two great little films that I can watch over again without being tired of them.

I've read many of the forum posts and it seems like a very nice crowd. Shame we can't make Planet Ealing our meeting place!

Default 'Hi' from new member

Hi All

I was prompted to join 'Britmovie' today after watching a series of 'Carry On' programmes on Freeview last night. I am no stranger to forums and I am currently a member of over 50.

I am a collector of films of all kinds and I have a very large collection (10k) on various media which I have accumulated since 1981. Many of my favorites are the black & white British movies of the 30s through 60s and I am pleased that many lost classics are now appearing on DVD.

I have a passion for comedy and being born in the UK in the early 1950s my preference is for British humor which had a childlike innocence in my formative years. The 'Carry Ons' were to break that mould and this uniquely British series remains one of my all time favorites.

I also have a fondness for TV films & series of the 60s through 80s but they don't seem to make them like this any more. Consequently I have started a collection of my favorites which, ironically, I usually have to obtain from either the USA or Europe because they are not (yet) released in the UK. I keep in contact with the BFI and make suggestions for films I would like to see again. Sometimes I get lucky. It is a waiting game.

Regards

Phil

Smile Gerry B

Hi all,

I stumbled on the site oldmovietv quite by chance and thought all my dreams had come true in just a few taps of the keys. I am an old TV nostalgia buff and I have been on the lookout for any sites that will 'recapture' my younger years in this way both in, of course real interest of those not so difficult times that we have now, but sentimentally also.
It was from this site that it was suggested I might like to click into Britmovie and share my interests and hopefully seek out other nostalgia buffs who had recorded oldies that would interest me.
So I look forward to teaming up with you guys in the times ahead.

Regards,

Gerry
