Close, but the film used wasn't normal B&W film. It was filmed on special film stock which was like 3 B&W films in parallel. What they say in that article is a bit of an over-simplification.

But earlier you were talking about things being "filmed" in B&W and in Technicolor as though they had two cameras side by side, one filming in B&W and one filming in Technicolor.

Welcome on board Fab50s. My excuse is that I've only just noticed your thread.

Default Hello Film Forum

Hello I am a new user here, I am looking for a number of hard to find films/musicals dating from the 30's - basically I'm not to sure who is best to talk with on here, so if you have a minute to spare could you let me know if you have any knowledge the following?:

The Dancing Years - Ivor Novello - 1949 / 1976 (any production will do, both?)
Smilin' Through (a number of productions 30's 40's)
Perchance To Dream (has this been produced at all? - I love it!!! :) )
Aspects' of love DVD - (would like a decent copy - there's a recording available but it's very poor quality)

Off the top of my head, this is all I'm going to mention right now, but I do have a hefty stock of VHS/DVD films/musicals - mostly from the golden age of cinema, 30's 40's 50's etc. but my tastes are mainly Romance and classic "weepies" - I'm certain I'm not alone there so make sure you get in touch please!! I'm not often on the the internet, but this forum has some decent info - I'm sure a chap called Elliot has "The Dancing Years" available, if anyone knows him please let me know, and I look forward to hearing from you and chatting with you as I get to use this forum more and more!
Thanks,
Mary

Smile Hello

Hello everyone, I'm new and the site says I have to introduce myself (which is very polite!)

I'm a teacher and I really like British and French films. I found this site when trying to find out whether a film of 'The Chrysalids' is being made - if not, why the hell not, I'd like to know! Excellent story, would be a great film I'm sure.

I like all sorts of films - particularly Trianspotting, My Name is Joe, Secrets and Lies and The Long Good Friday.

Nice to meet you all!

Becky

Default Hello From New Zealand

Hi

I am new to this forum, thought I'd say hello.
I lived in the UK for about 15 years (though born in NZ) married a girl from Suffolk.
We moved to NZ about 6 years ago.

I love the Euston film stuff like 'Out', 'Fox' and 'The Fear'.
I have ordered up 'Fox' from the UK and should have it this week. I've been wanting to see it again for about 20 years!

cheers

Hi, my name is John, I am 37 years old and live in Blackpool. I came accross this forum for the first time last night, and is really interesting. I love all the british comedy films from the 50's and 60's, including the "Carry On" films, plus tv comedies from the 60's to the early 90's. My favourite actors are Peggy Mount, Joan Sims and Hattie Jacques.

I'm afraid I haven't a clue about The Chrysalids being adapted for cinema (or TV), but hello and welcome

Hello Becky, welcome to BritMovie.

That's a question we often ask, nobody seems to have managed to do a film or even a TV version of The Chrysalids. Although it would be difficult to make those big horses, but I suppose they could do them with CGI nowadays.

The one I'd like to see made from Wyndham's many excellent stories is The Trouble With Lichen. We're told we have an ageing population, Wyndham addressed the problem in 1960 and made a great story out of it. It wouldn't need many dramatic special effects or anything too complicated, it's just a very good story that outlines a very real potential problem.
