Welcome, Anya. Those Hammer fans are a sicko lot, and I'm glad to say I'd never partake in those trashy films. Of course, I've had to endure one or two as part of my, uh, education. But that's it. That's the only reason. Well, mostly the only reason. Sometimes it's the reason. At least. Sort of.

I'm off sick from work at present and so have watched rather more films than usual lately, and have felt the need to join a forum to discuss or just read about films I've seen or might want to see. I particularly enjoy Hammer and Amicus horror films, though I also like 'quality' films such as Women in Love, Alien, Don't Look Now and 28 Days Later.

Welcome, Chalky. I think you've come to the right site, it would appear that there are quite a few contributers who are interested in films set in Brighton. You'll also find the folk on this site are a friendly lot.

Hello @ll!

Sorry, I didn't notice this thread before, so this comes a little belated – but then again, better late than never, as they say.

I came across this forum some time ago by chance, as most people do, I guess. I stayed on as a sometimes-guest then, more recently, decided to become an active member. I have a general interest in film and television, with a shift towards the latter about a decade ago. I had to give up being obsessive about the small and the big screen some years ago but I am starting again. As mentioned, my interest in cinema and tv is general, but of course there is some specialisation, namely and in decending order: British, American and German (as I have spend quite some time on the continent; btw, hence the nick, in case anyone actually wondered).

The Avengers, with the unsurpassed Mrs. Peel at the helm of course, probably had the greatest influence on me in my childhood and instilled in me the unfaltering conviction that women can do anything they like, and do it just as well or even better than men, especially when clad in tight leather. Similarly, Margaret Rutherford's Miss Marple instilled in me the unfaltering conviction that old, overweight women can do anything they like – a thought I find increasingly comforting. I blame Hammer Films for my enduring love of horror and all things gory. The Third Man, Citizen Kane, M and A Lady Vanishes are some of the films which, for varying reasons, taught me about the awe-inspiring and mesmerizing power of the cinema.

All of which makes for a rather too long introduction, so I'll better stop. I hope, over time we will all read a lot more from each other.

Only recently joined. How refreshing to see British films being admired by those who love them.

I think I'll need a week off work to plough through the many informative posts

Hello and Welcome, Guten Tag, Hanseat.
I'm sure there will be plenty of topics to keep you amused and I, for one, share your enthusiasm for the Avengers

And welcome to you too, Chevyman

Cool Hello Britflickers!

Hi everybody,

This was the only 'introductions' thread I've found so far, and the welcome message suggested posting after I just joined, so here goes...

I love films in general, but particularly the post-war black-and-white war movies, such as 'Reach for the Sky' and 'Sink the Bismark' as two of my favourites. I like Kenneth Moore films, though also things like Dambusters. Must confess, I thought 'Saving Private Ryan' was a pretty excellent modern attempt at redoing the older type war movies. I'm also a fan of the 'Foyle's War' series.

I'm a thirty-year-old from Astley, near Manchester, and work as an archives and local history assistant in nearby Bolton. I'm also a genealogist and motorcyclist.

Just found the site by accident through the Google search engine (which brought up a sad result for me) and decided to join up to be nosey and see if there's any really good movies I should be watching for.

Cheers all, next round's on me!

Me, too. I thought this series' time- and crime-drama focus gave me a nicely unique or at least seldom watched story-line. We know these sort of crimes had to occur - after all, even Sherlock Holmes found time to solve crimes, according to Universal. So why not some other detective?!!

I thought those 'updated Universal' films were well-done and when FOYLES arrived, I found myself giving them the same fervor as they explored some of the smaller 'slices of life' of that time.
