Found this website when I did some research in to some film locations I was eager to visit.
Have just come back from Kent visiting some of the country locations for 'A Canterbury Tale' - an enigmatic film but one I relly enjoy watching.
I found an interesting thread on this site regarding the location of the farmhouse in 'Dead of Night' - another great classic - which prompted me to sign up.
I am quite intrigued in locating and visiting old film locations nd to see if they have changed a great deal or now even exist!
Anyway I'm sure I'll benefit from browsing through this site and increase my knowledge and appreciation of classic British films.

Welcome Aaron. An especial welcome to anyone that's done the A Canterbury Tales pilgrimage. How many locations did you get to?
Did you find the page detailing the locations on the PaPAS site?
Have you read Paul Tritton's book about the film? That has a lot of information about the locations as well as interviews with a lot of the cast & crew. It also has details of our Annual ACT location walk

Hi Steve,
Yes I did get a lot of info from the PAPAS site and basically used the section written by Paul Tritton to locate the sites. I only had a day so I went to Chilham and walked to Chilham Mill, Pow Wow Hill, the bren carrier ambush scene and the roll in the grass episode.
Despite what Paul states there is no way you could ever see Canterbury Cathedral from those spots even in 1944 when there were fewer trees.
Also went to Canterbury and to the library (The Beaney Institute).
I'm not at all convinced that the long shot scenes of the Cathedral were shot from Godmersham Downs as in the film the cathedral appears to be viewed from the South East not the South West as claimed. I shall recheck and see.

That's why he did an update to the book, and might do others, there is still new information being discovered. But the vast majority of that huge amount of information is very accurate.

We think that some of the long shots of the Cathedral, particularly towards the end, were shot from the Fordwich area. But that's ENE not SE or SW.

What is SE of Canterbury is Bekesbourne, the area where Michael grew up.
I wonder if he sneaked in a few shots from his old playground?

Hiya, I've just joined. I couldn't find an 'Introductions' thread so I thought I'd create one. Apologies if there is in fact one I should have posted on.

I'm off sick from work at present and so have watched rather more films than usual lately, and have felt the need to join a forum to discuss or just read about films I've seen or might want to see. I particularly enjoy Hammer and Amicus horror films, though I also like 'quality' films such as Women in Love, Alien, Don't Look Now and 28 Days Later.

ADY RETURNS STOLEN AVATAR !

Since first joining this forum, Ady has used a still of Actor Ronnie Raymond (playing Alexander Eastley in the 1961 film, Murder She Said), as his avatar. His motive for doing this was to raise the profile of his attempts to find information about Mr Raymond, by having this photo at the head of all of his posts.

Ronnie Raymond has now, very kindly , come forward and answered some of the questions posed in these posts through Forum Administrator, DB7.

This made Ady think ( a rare occurrence! ) - " If I visited a forum and saw someone asking for information about me, and using a photo of me as their avatar - then I would assume that they were a bit , well , odd ! "

So ! Ady has now decided to hand back the stolen avatar, ( not that Mr Raymond mentioned it ) , and select one, more fitting to Ady's attributes.
