Get involved is the answer. Look around the various topics that are discussed and offer advice and support to other members, that's what this site is all about. Welcome and enjoy.

Hooked off the line
Hi,
I have been a member here for a while and have posted in the request forums previously, but I don't get to come here often due to pressures of work. However, I called in today to post in the forums and when I try it tells me I do not have permission to do so. Any reason why please? Is there something I should be doing, or something I have missed? It allows me to login so I know my username and password are correct. Would appreciate any help please.

You have to have made 5 posts. The one above was your third. Try again.![]()
LOL
Maybe I should never stop talking too, but I'm a philosophiser - well I'ts a posh name for being the strong silent type. It's my hubby who nags!
Thanks for the replies and the advice, I suspected something about 5 posts but I have been back and tried - but the answer is just the same. you may NOT post! Wah! No-one loves me!

What are you trying to do when you get told that you may not post?
It's only the "Looking for a Video/DVD (Film & TV)" forums that are restricted and require you to have made a number of posts in other forums. You seem to be able to post in this forum OK
Were you logged in when you tried to post?
You must have been or you get messages telling you to log in
Were you trying to post to a forum or were you trying to send a private message to an individual?
Steve
I couldn't figure it out for the life of me why I couldn't post in the DVD/Video Request Forum until I came across and read about the 5 post rule. It makes sense and I actually support it. You have to try and have some way to tell the real from the posers.![]()
name='urkelinuk']I had the same problem posting elsewhere - also had problems remembering my password after i changed it.
Make a note of it or, if you're using Windows, get it to remember it for you?![]()
I am a registered user and have been for some time, although I don't often log in. I have been trying to post a couple of replies, but am receiving the message "you do not have permission to access this page".
I am not trying to edit anyone else's post, "access administrative features or some other privileged system", so I can only assume the final option - that the administrator "may have disabled your account". Why? Lack of usage? When I do log in, I get a message inviting me to post replies etc., and have done so with no problem in the past.
I also can't access the "contact us" option, as my email is apparently not recognised, although I am a registered user with a username and password. How do I solve this?
Help, please.

There's a posting quota that new users have to meet, posting at least a certain number of messages before they're allowed to use Private Messages (PMs) or post in certain restricted forums. It's all in the Forum Rules, which everyone is advised to read
The good news is that by posting this, you've met that quota so all of those things are now available to you
Steve
Thanks, Steve!
I was just wondering the same thing. Useful thread! Ta,
Nick
Dear Administrator (Steve)
I am not a trader of films but I am looking for a rare one because a co-star was my wife's mother. She has recently died and I am looking for an opportunity - without her knowing - to get a copy so she can see what her Mum looked like in 1947.
I appreciate that the exchange forum is for established members (and I am not one) and I do not wish to interfere with your excellent organ but I wonder if I could prevail on your good nature to allow me to post and ask if anyone has a copy?

By asking this question you've reached your "5 posts minimum" and can now post in the "Looking for a Film" thread. I didn't have to do anything

Hi everyone I'm new and I hope to be helped as well as help. See you around.
I suspect a database problem; I joined some time ago and was not able to post or to enter the Members forum, getting constant error messages. I rejoined after logging out, clearing my cache and entering different information and it seems - *seems* - to be working.
I too would very much appreciated being elevated to the lofty "established member" category. I'll admit that there is a relatively less know early 60s film I'd very much like to obtain a copy of, hence the interest in also being able to post in the desired video category. I have posted approximately 12 messages as of this one (not including this one). Thank you.

Your status is set automatically depending on the number of posts you've made in the forum.
You should be able to post in the Looking for a Video/DVD areas and you should be able to send and receive personal messages (PMs)
Have you tried any of these things and found that you were unable to do them?

I am also new and have been experiencing problems submitting a post. I only joined because a saw a series of messages on the subject of BBC trade test colour films. I have a lot of these and a whole load of research information which I was happy to share with the many who had posted requestes for such. I am NOT seeking to buy or exchange DVDs merely trying to help. I contacted the support people but their response did not tell me anything I could understand. (I don't have previous experience of message boards!)
You say those requesting DVDs etc have to have 5 posts but first, I am not looking for DVDs, and second I am not allowed to post on the trade test board!
I'm a busy person and joined this purely to try to help others. I have to say that trying to figure out someone elses arbitrary, unnecessarily complex and obscure
regulations, details of which I have yet to find in relation to my desire to help on this particular board is something I don't plan spending much more time on!
One person has already asked me for information and yet I am unable, not unwilling, to give it.
What is the deal here?
Paul
