    Hello, all -

Is there a way to search the forum based on keyword?

I'd like to avoid posting questions that have already been answered, and search for postings by favorite subject, such as "Ealing."

    Thanks.

If you click on the Search facility, you can then do a search on keyword. With the Advanced Search, you can specify the forums to look in. I tend to search for posts rather than threads.

Of course, some searches will throw up far more results than others

Might be best to narrow the forums you wish to search; try just British Films, Ask a Question, Favourite Films, Actors and Directors.

Is there a way of preventing 'unnecessary' threads being started? I don't mean anything offensive but 'repeat' ones. For example, I posted a few times at a Richard Attenborough thread a few weeks ago but found a more comprehensive one soon after. How about an advisory note to members to check subjects before embarking on a new thread?

I could have benefited from this myself when starting 'Unmentioned Actors' when I was unaware there was a 'Forgotten Character Players'. And Sir Olly Bolly wasn't best pleased to see his 'Great Voices' usurped by 'Most Distinctive Voices'.

    Just a thought.

It would certainly help if people titled a thread about a particular film/actor with the actual name of a film or person rather than a random comment about it...

That was the case with the aforementioned Richard Attenborough thread I'm afraid. I don't like to criticise what people have done but you're right.

Last week I wanted to find out if there was one for Michael Jayston, as I've been thinking of creating a dedication myself, and came across the title 'Actor's name please'. I liked the way Caine's thread unfolded until Michael's name was guessed but I feel it should have been re-titled when it was answered as people then started pitching in with their favourite memories. Caine's title still shows in post #1, by the way, so the thread could still be called 'Michael Jayston'.
