Actress Louise Jameson has reported on Doctor Who website Gallifreynewsbase that director Pennant Roberts has died.

Pennant Roberts was the first director on Howards Way, Tenko and Survivors, and as such was responsible for some of the key casting and set-up of these well remembered and much-loved series. He also worked on Blake's Seven, Doomwatch, Softly Softly, Juliet Bravo, The Onedin Line, Doctor Who, and many more seminal BBC productions of the 70s and 80s.

Louise Jameson's tribute is all the more poignant, given that he cast her in both Doctor Who and Tenko, two of her most enduring roles.

A couple of years back, I had a few emails to-and-fro with Mr Roberts. He was delighted to be able to discuss some of his TV work, and the way the BBC and the TV industry has changed since the 70s and 80s.

A remarkable body of work, across some of the best-loved TV series of a British TV heyday. I'm very sad to read of his death, of cancer aged 69.

Sorry to relay on the sad news of the death of Pennant Roberts, television producer and director, whose numerous credits include DOOMWATCH, SOFTLY, SOFTLY, original SURVIVORS, DOCTOR WHO, THE ONEDIN LINE, HOWARDS WAY, TENKO and THE PROFESSIONALS. He was considered as being an "actor's director".

More sad news - sorry to hear of Pennant's passing. He did some excellent work and always seemed a jolly nice chap when interviewed.

    R.I.P.

RIP.......he was a lovely and kind man, who shared an inordinate amount of time with me with regards 'The Professionals'. Such a memory too; you'll be sorely missed.......
