It is with a great ammount of sadness that I post the death of one of my all time heroes.
John Barry who wrote some of the best film and TV themes of the last 50 years has died.
His compositions are so distinctive that it is impossible to pick one as a tribute but this will have to be in my top ten.
Thank-you for the pleasure you have given us and regrets that you were never given the Knighthood that you so richly deserved.

I find this very sad. David Arnold is on the radio right now saying you could fill a whole programme with John Barry's music in 5 second clips and everybody would recognise them. His most iconic work may be 40 or 50 years old, but he was a source of great, uplifting art and as such should have been allowed to live forever. Which, of course, he will, in films.

A sad loss to the film and music industry both. So many fine scores it would be impossible to pick a favourite. RIP, John

Oh, that's a very sad news... John Barry

I especially like the JB soundtracks and the jazzy one he composed for The Ipcress File

John Barry is a genius. Though for ever remembered as the James Bond composer (and you don't get more famous than that!) he also did many great scores for British films of the period.

    RIP Mr Barry.

Some of the first records I ever bought or had bought for me were Bond soundtracks. Having been born in 1962, they provided the musical background to a huge part of my childhood.

As if that body of work wasn't enough, I am currently listening to 'The Ipcress File', and marvelling at how, with that music, he provides the definitive soundtrack to not only an entire film genre but almost the cold war itself.

The man was a genius and will be missed.

Very sad news indeed, he was hugely talented and achieved such a lot. The music that he composed for movies will always be with us. Apart from his work as a composer I remember the hit records that he had in the late 50s early 60s, Hit and Miss (Juke Box Jury) is one of those records that can immediately take you back to that time. R.I.P. John.

Yes a major talent and his music will live on for future generations to enjoy, I've been a fan since the John Barry Seven and can still remember buying his first film score 'Beat Girl' on vinyl.

I just heard on the radio that he described himself as a dramatist rather than a composer - great way of putting it I thought
