Philip Madoc 1934 - 2012

Philip Madoc has died after a short illness. Great shame, he was brilliant in everything he did. Mostly small supporting roles but very memorable whether Dads Army, Doctor Who, Porridge or any of the other great comtributions to British television.

Yet another terrible loss. I especially liked Philip in Another Bouquet, the sequel to Bouquet of Barbed Wire. He played the lover of Sheila Allen, who died last October. Still haven't taken that in. These are very much the worst of times for fans of classic TV.

A memorable actor and a great career. Deepest condolences to family and friends.

I saw that episode just a couple of nights ago! He was excellent.

We will never forget the famous `Don`t tell him Pike!` scene. It couldn`t have been better cast.

I think I remember Smudge saying he had met Phillip and that he was a nice man.

I wish I'd seen more of Mr. Madoc's performances. Is the "The Life and Times of David Lloyd George" (1981) available at any sites, does anyone know?

I liked him in A Mind To Kill as DCI Noel Bain - a great actor and his turn in Dad's Army proved he was good at comedy too.

Yes, it was great to see Philip in the leading role of A Mind To Kill. He also had various roles in Dr Who and The Avengers.

This is extremely sad news. Philip Madoc was a wonderful character actor, possessing a magnificent fruity voice and such dangerous eyes. He was always a delight to see and hear and he will certainly be very much missed.

This is terrible news. I was watching Philip only last night in an episode of Manhunt. A great actor. For me, his best performance has to be as Dr Evan Lewis in Another Bouquet. On the subject of Bouquet Of Barbed Wire and Another Bouquet, he is the fourth actor to die in the last four successive years.

On 7th August 2009 we lost Peter Needham who played Prue's doctor in the last two episodes of Bouquet Of Barbed Wire.
On 6th April 2010 we lost James Aubrey who played Gavin Sorenson in both Bouquet Of Barbed Wire and Another Bouquet.
On 13th October 2011 we lost Sheila Allen who played Cassie Manson in both Bouquet Of Barbed Wire and Another Bouquet.
And now today we have lost Philip Madoc who played Dr Evan Lewis in the last four episodes of Another Bouquet.

Among some of Philip's other classic roles are appearences in comedies like Porridge and Dad's Army, the excellent BBC series The Life And Times Of David Lloyd George, and countless ITC appearences including The Saint, The Baron, Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), The Champions, Man In A Suitcase, Jason King and UFO. He also appeared in a classic episode of The Sweeney called Golden Fleece with Patrick Mower and then the two teamed up again a couple of years later for the BBC cop series Target.

Philip was excellent as a menacing villain working with the daleks in the Dr Who film Daleks - Invasion Earth 2150 AD.

Philip has been a great asset to the world of film and tv. He will be much missed. Another of my favourite actors gone.

I watched the BBC Last of the Mohicans recently and Philip was a memorable Magua, though I have say Wes Studi was outstanding in the role - I think it helps that he is of Native American heritage.

I never did see any of the A Mind to Kill series, as it was on Channel 5, the bastion of rubbish at the time. It has improved, but it's still not a channel I turn to very often.

Another great Actor sadly leaves us.

Philip Madoc appeared in many of my favourite TV programmes - Doctor Who (4 stories), Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased), Dad's Army, The Sweeney and The Good Life.

Philip Madoc also appeared in many other TV programmes that i like including The Baron, Man In A Suitcase, Porridge and Midsomer Murders.

My favourite film role of Philip Madoc's was Brockley in Dalek's Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. (1966), Philip Madoc also appeared in another film that i have always liked - Dr. Jekyll And Sister Hyde (1971).

I did see Philip Madoc at Bressingham at Dad's Army Day on June 20th 2010, i obtained his signature on several items, and he said those famous words from Dad's Army - Don't Tell Him Pike.
