A big influence on a lot of people, and not just an inovator on guitar, but studio technique. Sad news.
Indeed, Hugh. He wanted to 'play with himself', so he had to invent multi-tracking - first on disc, then on magnetic tape. I've got a DVD of the programme Les Paul: Chasing Sound here, and I watch it regularly, admiring the man's genius and determination.
Sad but a stoic innings, ive owned a few lesters over the years, and his inspired invention of the multitrack tape recorder.
my current lp.

There are many, many guitarists who owe a lot to him.

One of my great heroes. This is a sad loss indeed but he had a long and fascinating life and what a great legacy he left behind. I'm just grateful we still have all that great music to listen to and you can bet they'll be making Les Paul guitars for a very long time to come.

Yes jay some of them can be boat anchorsbut not the one in this pic,it's tonally chambered (as opposed to weight relieved, which most of the industrial grade mahogony is ;( now ) this is just over 7lbs has a more resonant, woody airey sound closer to a 335, my old cream les paul custom was over 10 lbs

It does make you wonder what path modern music would have taken without Les Paul's enormous input and pioneering work.
Thanks for the music Les.

playing my standard is like carrying a walrus sometimes! saying that, mine is dark brown so your vintage sunburst is bound to be lighter!!(ha ha!)
Very nice instuments, unfortunatly I'm not to good with guitars so I play bass.

Thats my problem,I've got an acoustic guitar which I can manage a bit but prefer playing my thunderbird bass with flatwounds, much more comfortable.
regards,Andy.
May treat myself to an upright after christmas.
