Well we are back home having done our bit for Corncrakes, and other birdlife on Coll, including counting breeding pairs of Red Throated Divers and Hen Harriers, also went out looking for Basking Sharks but not harpooning them as Gavin "Ring of Bright Water" Maxwell once did off The Minch. Daughter and I spent a fab afternoon counting Wild Flower species on The Machair [land between the sand dunes and agricultural ground], managed 46, with her favourites being Bloody Crane's-bill , Ragged Robin & Dog Violets.

And I picked up a copy of the reprint of Michael Powell's 200,000 Feet on Foula under the title of Edge of The World in a charity shop in Oban which was nice, and kept my quite on the ferry out and back.

Sounds like a good time was had by all. Well done

It died through lack of interest and lack of use. It was one of the features that was disabled soon after Steve Debank (DB7) died unexpectedly and we were then subject to a series of attacks by hackers.

That you are the first person to ask about it in the 6 months or so since it was disabled speaks volumes about it.

A chat room only works when there are a lot of people online at the same time. With a population like ours, with people calling in from all over the world at different times it just doesn't work

Someone mentioned it a couple of months ago. I think it might have been Faginsgirl, not sure.

OK, so two mentions of it in 6 months. Hardly enough interest to start it up again - even if I could.
I always did think that it wasn't appropriate to this sort of forum, with the sort of membership we have.
There are plenty of other places that offer chat rooms if that's what some people want. We can't do everything, and shouldn't try to

Must admit I'm one who never took an interest in the chat room. One reason was the time difference. "Have a Chat" is good enough for me. (Thanks MarkyB.)

I wonder if the lack of interest was down to a lot of members not knowing it existed in the first place ?

It was quite well advertised. But it was always hard to get two or more people to use it at the same time.
Lots of people went in there, said "Where is everybody?" and quickly gave up.
There were a few pre-scheduled meetings, but they didn't last long

Shame that, had it worked we could have stopped clogging up the threads with mindless stuff Maybe that still happens.

I made a few collages of Torin (mostly screen caps) that I use as backgrounds for my computer at work. It's funny, whenever one of my co-employees see one of them (right now the one I have up is of his early British films) I get a lot of positive comments about nostalgia, how movies were different back then. They know I like older movies, they know I am a BFI and STR member, too.

Some unforeseen family problems have arisen which are quite serious - not sure when and if I will be back.

    Sorry.
