Default World War 2

It is generally acknowledged that the main turning point of the war was the big tank battle between the Germans and the Russians in 1943 i think it was Kursk. The Germans were heavily defeated and were never to regain the initiative again.

One of, certainly....but that was the halt of German expansion, not the reversing of it...for that you have to add in El Alamein, the invasion of Italy, and the Normandy landings.

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

Ironically, I'm inclined to think Germany's fate was sealed the day the Japanese achieved a huge propaganda and military victory.......

Actually Moor i think you have hit it on the nail>Hitler declared war on Germany 5 days after Pearl Harbour because of the Axis treaty. What might have happened if he had not?

It is oft reckoned it was Hitler's biggest blunder that he declared war on the USA. The USA were quite happy to concentrate on the Pacific war after Pearl Harbour, but after Hitler's declaration (the only country he declared war on by the way),it got the USA out of its moral dilemma as it dithered on waging a war on Germany because of the large population of German people living in the USA. How the course of the war would have took if he hadn't declared war would be mere speculation.

Roosevelt was afairly devious character. He always seemed to be telling evryone what they wanted to hear.He always encouraged Churchill that ultimately the US would go to war but to the voters he gave the impression that he wouldnot go to war.

"Generally acknowledged"?
As Harley said, there were many turning points, not just one. The battle of Kursk was just one of many

Without Hitler, Germany wouldn't have suffered nearly as much. Nor the Soviets without Stalin, or the Japanese without the Army leaders.

In fairness to Hitler,he did a revive an impoverished Germany, and if he kept on that road (such as the motorways he gave to the world),history would have been different, but his re-armament programme (which Churchill was trying to warn the British government about),his anti-Jew stance, his lust for global domination, his crazed idea of creating a perfect race, his arrogance, his rabble rousing, the murders of those opposed him and eradication of opposition parties put him and the new Germany on the course for war and self destruction. Then in the aftermath, came a divided Germany,a divided Europe...yep,like him or loathe him(and I think we all agree on the latter there),he left his mark on history.
