We love living here because we get all the facilities of living in a city (our local amenities are excellent and Josh goes to a great local school) combined with virtually instant access to the country and sea sides. Friends of mine who live in small rural villages complain of exactly the things Steve has described. So do some who live in the larger villages and small towns. The only downside to living here is we do get quite a few local louts who make going to the local parks a no no because of their rudeness and aggression. They also tend to congregate around some local shops after dark, but that happens in villages too.

Norwich is a great city, although it has it's share of violent crime and is not the place to be on a Friday or Saturday night if you're not a drinker or a clubber.

"Very flat, Norfolk"
Norwich and the surrounding area is very nice, as long as you don't want to look up at anything except the birds and aeroplanes flying overhead.

I'm thinking of heading up that way (sort of) soon, a bit NW of there, to Boston (Lincs, not Mass), to check out some of the locations used in One of Our Aircraft is Missing and The Silver Fleet. They were both set in the Netherlands, but it was a bit difficult to send a film crew there during the war so they filmed them in and around Boston and what was marked on some old maps as "Parts of Holland". When they built the windmills, canals & dykes in that area they were helped by Dutch engineers who also influenced some of the buildings in the area. like the Burgomeister's house near the Boston Stump (St. Botolph's church). So it was quite easy to make it look like the Netherlands

After our recent holiday up north Josh keeps asking when we're going to see some more 'mountains'. 'Soon', we say .... as we head off to see his grandma in The Fens.

There was a Grumpy Old Men programme on last night tackling the subject of class in the UK.

Do you say "napkin" or "serviette"?

Do you have lino that looks like tiles or lino?

What do you call the lavatory?

Do you have; a) lounge b)sitting room c)drawing room d)living room (you can't have b) unless you've got one of the others as well).

Do you have fish knives and forks?

What did your father do for a living?

Do you stay in town at the weekend too?

i got all excited thinking it was AL BUNDY!!!

Signed the house sale contract last night, so move across the channel is getting closer. A lot more involved than I can say but have to admit it is getting very scary now and am looking for any excuses to not go despite feeling I have to to make sure of that fresh start.
