Max Bygraves left Bournemouth after many years to settle in Australia. He's probably topping the Aussie charts as I speak with a new album, Bilabong-A-Max!

Perhaps if JA goes she might consider a remake of Walkabout?

Another shooting last night in South London just off Old Kent Road, two rival gang tossers were firing at each other and a 26 year old Polish girl walking home from work got caught in the crossfire and was killed! Give it another few months and Basra will be less dangerous than South London!

Default Strange Places. Great locations!

I just returned from a really relaxing break in North Norfolk. Some pages back, someone mentioned Happisburgh! I use the exclamation mark (I'm English, so I still use them, not that new American word people use for them) to emphasise that I did, as I said I would, and toured the whole quiet coastline and ended up at Happisburgh, which is (as you rightly said) pronounced Heppsboro.
Upon entering the village one is truck by the desolation, the wildness of it. It didn't help that it was quite misty and a light drizzle had set in. We followed the sign that said "BEACH". The car park was unmade, and there was a huge sign that looked like it had been there years, it read "KEEP OUT". An old tin shed that was once used as a Public Convenience was falling down, some of its corrugated sheet flapping in the wind, a very spooky place indeed. I thought...."What a great location this would make". After climbing through a hedgerow, I was amazed to see that the beach area was a huge Scrap Yard! Not somewhere I wish to ever see again. anyone else have a story of strange places that would make great locations? Perhaps, if this takes off, Moderators may wish to give it a place of it's own.

As someone who was brought up in North Norfolk and left many years ago, is Happisburgh still there? I thought it would have been washed out to sea by now!

Bats, I must say that I had a really relaxing time in north Norfolk, that is what I went there for after all. I stayed in Holme-Next-The-Sea, and visited really unspoilt little places, and had some lovely meals in quiet little pubs. So, if you have a busy lifestyle, and need a REAL break, you could do worse. but don't tell, everyone, they'll all be there.

They were already there yonks ago which is why I left; the members of the parish council now hail mostly from trendy London boroughs and one from Holland, the village shop stopped selling pies but you can now buy twenty seven varieties of organic coffee bean, the pub scrapped the darts team and they now have bridge evenings, there are more second hand book and antique shops than you can shake a stick at (really useful if all you want to do is buy a hot pie), the population has trebled in 30 years and having discovered this rural idyll they're now all moaning because there's no big Tescos, IKEA, B&Q, motorways, street lamps, footpaths or a sodding airport close by!

The only comfort is that the real locals are still as menacing, anti-social and sinister as they ever were, and if you can't trace your ancestors directly back to Boudicca and The Iceni then you'll get short shrift from them bor, and whether you come from Suffolk, Southend or Surbiton you'll just be a "foreigner" who "hent roight!" until you abandon ship and head back home, feeling totally dejected with your head down and your iPod headphones dangling between your legs!

That's why I like living here, it is like stepping back in time once you get off the beaten track. We regularly drive out to quiet villages for a stroll, even the Boy Wonder is starting to appreciate it, especially all the lovely churches. Next time you are in Norfolk, check out a village called Heydon, near to Holt. Magical.

Chalk Hill Brewery

Greene King Corporate: Introducing brands & brewing, Greene King the premier UK brewer of ales.

St Peter’s Brewery | 01986 782322

What about good old Narch Bitter (Norwich Bitter) it made Watney's Red Barrel taste almost like beer!
