And I don't think Scots MPs should now vote on English issues.

But with several cabinet members being Jocks I fear we're stuck with it. Did anyone spot if those dodgy donations were English or Scottish banknotes.............
I would have thought they would have been Bank of England notes which is recognised British currency, Scottish notes are also recognised British currency and perfectly legal tender in all parts of Britain but in my own experience trying to pass Scottish notes to retailers in London is usually met with the same reaction as if I were trying to pass Monopoly notes or bad counterfiets!.... and did you know the great train robbers of the 60s (Ronnie Biggs etc) tried to destroy hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of Scottish notes that was amongst their haul because they thought it would be too difficult to get rid of.........they certainly would have had trouble spending it in London but Iwonder why they just didn't think of taking the train back up to Glasgow and getting rid of it up there.

You should just try this with a Scottish one pound note! (Yes, they are still around in Scotland - I received one in change a couple of weeks ago - but not so common now.)

What do we think about this? And does it really matter? (Most people don't know the words to the second verse let alone the sixth!)

I have long thought that "Land of Hope and Glory " would be a far more suitable (English ) National anthem . God save the Queen is dreary ,and If you watch any sporting event the English team don't seem to know the words and not all of them sing along to It.In comparison can you Imagine a Scotsman not singing along to "Flower of Scotland " or a Welshman not singing "Land of my fathers " ?

I will never forget the first time I heard "Land of my fathers ", I was watching the Five nations ,Wales v England at the Cardiff Arms Park in the late 60's and the pure passion and beauty of the singing made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.I Know playing England seems to add a bit of spice to any home nations event, but when a welshman (or woman, no sexcism intended) sings their Anthem it just exudes a pride in their Heritage and a love for the country of their birth .
Even "La Marsellaise " knocks spots off our outdated and dreary offering

I May be getting older ,but I refuse to grow up

I usually inform hapless retailers here in London that the exchange rate means that a Scots £5 note is worth £6.50 and a Scots £10 note is worth £12, I must bring back some £1 notes next time Im up north, they must be worth at least £1.50.....

We get a lot of Scottish notes in work (Bristol) because of our proximity to Bristol Airport and a large number of our customers being cabbies.....the reluctance to accept Scottish notes is partly down to there being a large number of forged Scottish £20 notes in circulation....

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

Oh we all know the sixth verse about crushing those rebellious Scots
It was reputedly used as a wartime test to see if someone was British. If they knew more than the first verse then they almost certainly weren't British!

Ah, but the Welsh have never been embarrassed about singing in public.
Not all Welshmen can sing - but they all do

I read somewhere that it was because most Welsh homes still have outside toilets.
Apparently the Welsh developed good voices in order to let the rest of the family know that the loo was occupied.

Apart from that the Welsh haven't really got a lot to sing about.

Dave.

Billy Connolly got it right we should all "Da de dah, de dah de dah......." to the theme tune from The Archers! No lyrics required and only the British would get away with it!

There was talk about scrapping the National Anthem because it offended people living here from other lands of of different religious persuasion!

That was a great idea. Did you see the act he did when he first proposed it? He was talking about how dreary our anthem is compared to the other countries, especially the emerging nations. When they parade at the Olympics all the others seem to march along in a jaunty way with a spring in their step. Ours just trudge along to the dirge that is our anthem.

If it was a nice time like "Barwick Green" then they might well do better at sports

For anyone who doesn't know what we're talking about, The Archers is a long running radio soap. Listen to the theme tune here. The theme tune is the main theme in this piece.

Not by anyone with an ounce of common sense there wasn't
