When we were on holiday in August we had Seaton Carew recommended to us a 'a nice seaside town', so off we went. On arrival we encountered a drunk lying face down in the street and a large group of lads swilling from cans shouting at our car. In general we thought it a rather grubby and seedy place. We didn't get out of the car and drove on to Whitley Bay instead, which was very nice and The Boy Wonder was able to have a nice time with us on the beach.

A very funny piece taken from the Hancock's Half Hour radio episode "Fred's Pie Stall".

Tony " That's the trouble, no ones proud of being British these days. They all seem to think that foreigners can do things better. Well they can't."

Sid "
There's too many foreigners in this world. You can't go anywhere abroad without meeting them."

Tony "
Quite right too. And they're all coming over here for their holidays. That's what bothers me."

Bill "
Ah yes, but thats a good thing. They bring money into the country."

Tony "
It's only foreign money. What's the good of that? You can't spend it here. You try and pay your gas bill with a handful of Yugoslavian piastas and see where that gets you."

Dave.
One of the best episodes ever. I liked his experiencxe of the new trendy coffee bar:

"I didn't know they had brown sugar, I said to the waitress "Fetch us another bowl of sugar love, someone's spilt their coffee in this one!"".

"...the chairman of Littlewoods stores made a Keynote speech!"

I often go to Seaton Carew for a walk along the beach up to the North Gare and take photos of the raging sea and the Blue Lagoon (which would have been a nice place for you and the Boy Wonder,Bats). Unfortunately, the back drop of the Blue Lagoon is of industry and the nuclear power station. However, there is the Cleveland Hills to compensate.
Seaton Carew is nice for a day out in the summer, but Whitby is far better.

Whitley Bay is a nice place,as indeed Tynemouth. In fact the beaches are really lovely in Northumberland. If you are in the area again,Bats,Seahouses,Alnwick,Bamburgh and Holy Island are well worth a visit.

Mrs Bat's brother lives near York so we are often up that way and go to Whitby regularly, we all really like it there and The Boy Wonder is fascinated by the whale bones! My sister-in-law recommended Seaton Carew and was surprised we didn't stay. Perhaps we entered the town from the wrong end and missed the nice bits. The surrounding countryside away from the industrial areas is beautiful I agree. We intended to go to Holy Island but the weather was really bad when we were on holiday so we didn't make it. Alnwick was another placed we thought about going to but we were diverted to 'Diggerland' instead .

"Britain, Britain, Britain - there is so much to see and do here.

Why not get stuck in the one way system in Birmingham?
Or get caught up in a fight in a pub car park in Swansea?
Or why not get food poisoning from a motorway service cafe just outside Stoke?"

Opening lines to Little Britain Series 3, Episode 2.

I remember the "Fred's Pie Stall" episode...seems like yesterday!

Quote from Robert Morley:

"The trouble with going abroad for a holiday is, one meets so many foreigners!"

That was before the EU, of course!

There's never a copyright issue with including a link to a page, only when you include information from that page.

I believe British PM Gordon Brown has agreed to sign a EU Treaty today that takes away the rights for Britain to make many of it's own laws.
This means laws including the British Immigration Policy will be governed by the powers that be within the EU.
Failed asylum seekers to Britain will now be able to take their cases to the European Court Of Justice - who will make the final decision on whether they remain in Britain.
It takes an average of two years before the EU courts hear a case, yet the asylum seekers will still be entitled to full benefits and legal aid from UK taxpayers while awaiting the appeal.

Brown will today surrender more than sixty of the UK's prized vetoes on EU decisions - forever.
The treaty puts in place a powerful and permanent EU President and Foreign Minister. Powers will be handed to unelected bureaucrats and judges in Brussels.

One imbecile and a pen - and many of Britain's rights have gone forever.
