Not everybody lets their society be led by drink and we'll have to disagree about the influence on political correctness in the UK. Especially when compared with California. But I wish you well in your new home

Sounds like you've had enough of old blighty for sure! I always think one can find positive and negative in society and our opinions are obviously formed by our own experiences and what is making us happy....or unhappy. For all I know you lived next door to a loud pub with a late drinking licence and worked for the local council who are notorious for inventing very silly PC dictums! Anyway, while not entirely agreeing with your point of view, like Steve, I wish you all the best and hope you find what you are looking for in the USA.

Yeah, I mean, our leaders, that upright bunch of honest people, Members (That's about right!) of Parliament.

Anyone else, 'mis-using' their employers dosh would be sacked on the spot and very likely introduced to PC Plod.

Anyone else, speaking with a suspected terrorist, wouldn't be suprised to know Special Branch were bugging their conversation.

How come they think they're so very different to the rest of us?

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

Excuse me, but isn't this the same country where Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, Mischa Barton et al are regularly nicked for drink-driving and in and out of rehab like a fiddlers elbow?

I don't consider them to be "everybody".
Or even "anybody" if truth be told

And if it's a choice between Political Correctness, or Tom Cruise's Scientology and Mel Gibson's fascism, give me Political Correctness....every time....but I too, wish you well in your choice of new home.

I am not a fan of 'political correctness' but compared to the other two it's a breath of fresh air! I'm with you on this one penfold.

Because they've never lived in the real world.
They study politics and economics at university. They start working for a political party as soon as they leave uni. After a few failed attempts they eventually get selected and then eventually get elected.
They've never had a real job in their lives.

The only world they know is the corrupt world of politics (and that's not a party issue, they're all as bad as each other)

And they certainly don't see themselves as our "employees" or even our representatives. Once they're elected, the electorate is just a nuisance to be avoided.

Years ago politics was often seen as a true 'vocation'. These days it's just another well paid job .... like being a lawyer or a doctor, except that you need no proper qualifications to do it!

There's still a few good politicians around, Frank Field, Bob Wearing, Dennis Skinner and I'm sure others but in general I agree with you.

As an aside, it is strange the way Blair became Labour leader after the death of John Smith and I wonder how easy it would have been for Gordon Brown if Robin Cook had still been alive.

Frank Cook has been a good MP for this constituency, but the local Labour party has decided to deselect him for the next election.

The death of John Smith was the biggest tragedy in British politics - and a tragedy more so because it bequeathed a condescending idiot to govern over us for ten years.

I am just glad we don't have a choice between any of them. They are nothing but refuges for control freaks.

The Archbishop of Canterbury has said that Sharia law will come into effect in some areas of Britain.
Does that mean hands will be chopped off for shoplifting in Tesco,or beheading for anyone caught committing adultery in the Jasmine Allen estate?
