Call me Mr Naiive but whenever I travelled to far flung lands, and I often stayed for several months at a time in various African countries, India etc I always thought that it was my duty as a visitor/semi-resident to respect the laws and customs of the country I was in. This was just good manners and showed respect, and I didn't stomp around like some old Colonial demanding high tea at 4pm and insisting that the radio was permanently tuned into the World Service!

Some people who migrate here often want to turn their neighbourhood into a replica of where they came from, and start demanding religious buildings, special schools, interpreters, benefits for 4 wives etc all at public expense! They wouldn't get a pot to p*ss in back in their own country, but here they have more rights than most countries put together!

Migrating Brits often form British ghettos when they go off to live in Spain or France, but they certainly don't expect The State of the country they go to to subsidise them financially or provide them with bowling greens or a church!

We're a soft touch and Brown is all accommodating hoping that newcomers will keep his party in office!

It would be more beneficial to improve the economic situation in poorer countries like the former Soviet Bloc states etc to encourage people to stay put and build for the future, rather than this short termism all the bloody time. It doesn't do anybody any good, and the root cause of people's problems are not addressed! Eventually our Social Services will collapse under the strain, the police will be stretched to breaking point, kids will suffer in their education, and the indiginous population of the UK will pack up and leave!

If they said NO to welfare and reintroduced compulsory National Service for all adults between 18 and 40, regardless of religion, the outward bound ferries and aircraft would be operating 24 hours a day to cope with the rush!

The collapse of the Soviet Union was the worst thing that could have happened for Europe, we've not had one decent spy movie since!

I meant the idea that people get beheaded for adultery of have hands chopped off for shoplifting. That's not what Sharia Law is about - when it's practised according to the book.

But it's only some religious extremist who's suggested that it should be adopted. Since when did you listen to extremists like the Archbishop of Canterbury?

So is that why Brown rejected the suggestion as ridiculous?

I agree with everything, there,Sam,including the last bit. I have nothing against immigration, but I disagree with an open door policy and let's face it,geographically we are a tiny country and economically we can barely look after ourselves,so controlled immigration is needed
Whenever,I go abroad,I not only respect and honour their way of life in the host country, but I go there to enhance my respect for it.
People are welcome to come to this country, continue with their faith and traditions, but respect ours as well,as indeed a majority of them do.

I certainly honoured the way of life in the Soviet Union when I was there on a school trip in 1978 - I was too terrified to do otherwise. We were advised not to wear jeans (in case kids of our age wanted to buy them off you),but we did take packs of chewing gum over, which we swopped for badges.
When we passed Lenin's body,we had to with the utmost reverence as if you broke you were straight off to the gulags.
When communism died, the Soviet Union (and indeed East Germany) should have allowed the smaller states to build up their strength before being jettisoned into independence. The swallowing of East Germany, crippled the mighty powerhouse of West Germany,so that should have done the same before re-unification.

According to a TV documentary the other week, since many Eastern Bloc countries entered Europe from 2004 there are now 25,000 sex slaves in Britain! Most of whom have been brought over here by their fellow countrymen under false pretences, and forced to work in this loathsome industry!

These fellows are getting rich in our country by abusing their own people, safe in the knowledge that even if they get caught and deported they'll still be very wealthy, and when they need more cash they'll just come back again over our inadequate border security with a new Mickey Mouse passport and continue from where they left off!

So an open door policy is hurting many thousands of people who should be at home safe with their families, not satisfying the sexual fantasies of wealthy perverts!

Then there are the many Rumanian gypsies who were arrested in Berkshire (in Slough-vakia) for forcing very young children into crime and making thousands from them whilst living off The State as well! It's a f***ing ludicrous state of affairs!

The documentary and news reports could be wrong, but I don't think so! And what do our poorer pensioners get to decide on these cold winter nights? "Shall I have something to eat or put the heating on?" I'm ashamed of our government!

"...the chairman of Littlewoods stores made a Keynote speech!"

Don't follow your logic there old chap. What's ludicrous, that they were arrested? It seems to me like it was the right thing to do. The State may be slow, but it usually gets there

They may be extremes. Yet many terrible, outdated rituals are still being practiced in the name of religion by certain ethnic groups living within the UK.

Reports of enforced female circumcision and arranged marriages are still prevalent.
Rituals that should have been left in the dark ages are still being practiced by certain religious zealots of today.

Well unfortunately it's the tip of the ice berg, but they wouldn't dare do it back home! Here they feel quite safe to do as they please, and even if they get caught the punishment won't fit the crime and they'll be back doing it again in no time at all.

Great headline in today's SUN newspaper.

"Archbishop wants Muslim law in UK.
WHAT A BURKHA "
